I remember my dad emailed Mike Leach back in 2008, and told him he was a 1st time youth coach and needed to come up with some plays. So Leach sent him back the full Texas Tech playbook.

My favorite mike leach story is when he created a fake play script when he was offensive coordinator at Oklahoma and had the tight end “lose it” next to the longhorn sideline. He then created a real script with plays that would work perfectly against what Texas thought they were doing. Watch the video ESPN did about it. It’s hilarious.

Congressman Kent Hance engineered that whole fiasco because he was determined to please a handful of pious Tech donors who were hearing rumors of Leach partying with his team. I imagine they're all over Lubbock news social media the last few days still telling us Mike's ouster was "for the good of the U". Hance saw himself as a VIP when he returned from his his short stint in the House of Representatives. I imagine his DC connections didn't hurt in him getting the Tech job. Lubbock was building a winner tradition never before seen on the Texas Plains. Hance wasn't about to let Mike upstage him - but Kent couldn't win the PR war against the charismatic Leach. Nor could Kent win an intellectual battle with Leach. Mike could even out-folksy Kent every day of the week, and that was the only game Kent had. His rise through the political ranks to Chancellor of TTU is proof intellect isn't required. Watch some of his speeches on the House floor during debate. Even Kent's press releases during the Leach controversy were embarrassing to his high school teachers in Dimmitt. A timeline of events in chronological order indicates Craig and Kent tried to use Adam and the free airtime ESPN gave Craig to smear Mike's reputation so thoroughly he'd never coach another college team. Having failed, their consolation prize was cheating Mike out of his million $$ bonus. Even the judge in Mike's lawsuit embarrassed Lubbock. Who advised Craig to run for congress immediately after Leach was fired? Who advised Tommy Tubby to run for congress after his fiasco at TTU? Why was Hance's contract renewed after all the bad publicity he brought on Tech. Why were there no Tech alumni on the board of regents? Do grads (regents) of universities across the nation care if Lubbock loses the best shot at a championship football program they ever had? Nope! They're interested in Tech's wind research, in building wind farms, in the med and law school, etc.

A few of those Oklahoma championship run years (even if they didn't win), was off his air raid schemes, but with good players. So it does bear out. There is a small dusty West Texas town called Muleshoe. Muleshoe was an okay football town they made it to the state semi finals in Texas once with a QB by the name of Lincoln Riley. But Muleshoe was not a state powerthe idea of them competing for a state title was unthinkable. Lincoln went to Tech and learned under Mike Leach. The Coaches at Muleshoe went to Tech and Leach and Lincoln taught them the Air Raid offense. A few years later Muleshoe goes 15-0 wins a state championship and literally shocks anyone who really knows high school football in Texas.
