So I’m a drummer and I was also a freelance follow spotlight operator in Denver before I started gigging full time back in the 90’s. Mangini was playing for Steve Vai for the G3 shows. I was #1 spotlight and had to follow Vai. Mangini was playing some crazy extended fills during a song and I slowly panned the spotlight to him. I got yelled at on the clearcom and went back to Vai. That was my little nod for all the drummers in the crowd and to the most talented dude on the stage.
