I think Mike is misremembering his story of the first day of recording McGear in terms of the press trying to nail Paul, “the drug addict” because of LSD. McGear was recorded and released in 1974, a full 7 years after Paul admitted, in March of 1967, of taking LSD. Paul was, however, nailed for possessing marijuana numerous times during the 70’s and it was likely this which resulted in all the press attention.

But he'll be better off knowing "the truth", right? Or maybe you think that Mike was killed and replaced with an exact duplicate too. I guess they would have to do that to his entire family... and Jane Asher.... and all of his friends... and a big chunk of the music industry.... There is a book Mike McCartney published a few decades titled "The McCartneys". It is out of print now but you will occasionally see someone offering it for sale. It's a good book and has more pictures of Mike and Paul together along with more family photos. The pictures of them together through the years does show their resemblance but also shows how Paul has more features of his mother and Mike looks more like their father. There are some great stories in their and it gives you more perspective into their families. Their father's family has been musicians for generations and Mike talks about how their father encouraged their love of music. Mike also shared stories about their mother and is more open on the subject than Paul has been. If you get the chance, get it and enjoy their story from Mike's perspective than the usual responses Paul has given.

If you are the brother of Paul McCarthey's brother, why would you be called with a diff last name?
@brubeck1

because if he tried to do anything in the media, which he did, people would say , your only getting anywhere because of who yer brother is.

Because, unlike some, he didn't want to ride the McCartney coattails. The Beatles were still very big and very much together when Mike went into showbusiness. He wanted to be recognised for his own talents, not as 'the brother of'.
