That sounds like a fun job! Can you explain to me why I find inline skating really intuitive but I basically look like Mike when I put on roller skates?
@freesk8
Жыл бұрын
@@Grey_Duck In-line skates are longer front-to back. This gives you a longer platform, and more stability. With quad roller skates, the front set of wheels is closer to the back set, and so you are much more likely to get out of balance, either to the front (and fall on your knees) or back (and fall on your butt, as Mike Rowe kept doing.) Also, when you tip an in-line skate sideways, it keeps tracking pretty straight forward. But if you tip your ankle in a quad roller skate, the wheel trucks pivot so that you are on a curve. This gives them a smooth, maneuverability that is great for dancing in a roller rink, but can surprise an in-line skater who is not used to it. On in-lines, if we want the skate to follow a curved path, we have to "smear" the wheels a little, by forcing them to turn with "body English". Anyway, your in-line skating skills will serve you very well on quads. You just have to adapt to them through practice. Try to keep your weight more centered front to back, and play with tipping your ankle and gliding a curve on the quads. You'll get the hang of it! :)

Mommy Dearest #2, Resort City Roller Dolls, Rocktown Rollers, Mid Atlantic Roller Derby and CoVa were my teams. WFTDA. The awesome ladies from SanDiago flew to Virginia Beach to skate with us about ten years ago. In my twelve years in Derby, I never got over how empowering this sport is, how inclusive the players are, the respect all players seem to have for one another. This episode was accurate in depicting the sport, it’s hard work. Our teams spent the first couple months training how to fall to avoid injuries for each new skater. Four nights a week were spent doing endurance training, one on skills and bouts. It was hard work, but I wouldn’t have traded it for the world. Thank you for trying our sport.

What's up from Tampa, Florida! I'm relearning to inline skate after 20 years, painfully because the company I bought my skates from sent skate boots that are a size too small and I didn't notice until after the return policy ran out, and this brought so much joy to me. Showing the non-skateboarding skating in such a great light! I plan to visit my local roller derby's privately ran skateshop eventually and buy at least one thing to show support. What's more, I might watch a game every now and then now! I plan to aggressive skate, not touching quad skates or anything close to derby. But I plan to support my local derby team even more than I planned to before!
