The painting is where the big cost is as each one is individually hand painted However for mass production of thousands surely pad printing with multiple stages to build up the required effect and finish could do if the finished product does not need to be photo-realistic. For higher quality of image maybe a custom built (3d printed mainly) 4 axis CNC base with a bubble-jet type printing head could be made relatively cheaply and would be able to get the job done in minutes. Once the first one is made then clone the machines 20 times and you would have the quality, volume and one or three operators could run them Or you could use cheap hobby robot arms to load and unload the pieces. I am sure that a bunch of young kids from a school near you who are into robotics could figure it out. Don't ask an adult to try to do it because adults do not think way out the box like the kids who have not been taught that it is "impossible" to do
@AgentWest
Жыл бұрын
_Can_ it be done with automation? Absolutely! _Will_ it be? Absolutely not. Why spend thousands on improving the process when some asian kid can do the same work for pennies. I think what's saving this company is that their product is just niche enough where they can still get customers, but not enough for a big overseas company to copy their designs and put them out of business.

You just learned why the US has lost a lot of manufacturing to China. If made in the US the price would be about $200 versus about $20.00 to $60.00 from built in China. Why do you think Walmart gets about 70 to 80 percent of it's merchandise from China. Sure I think we make the best products but at what costs. Sure I'd like for more made here but whose going to buy something that in the US costs a tenth of what that item is if made in China.
