@@scott87665 I don't understand why nobody asks mike about it, I'm very curious what mike and Rooney's relationship is now, and what specifically led to him getting fired? From what I've gathered it was a bit of a scandal, and I don't think mike had a lot to do with it. I think there were a lot of ppl that tried to steal mike away to get money and fame from his success
@Mav624
4 жыл бұрын
@@peterfenter8800 From what I understand it was a couple of things. Tyson was bringing Don King and that whole scene into his inner circle more and Rooney didn't like that. Probably knew those guys were no good. Rooney was also quite expensive as a trainer, getting something like 10% of the fight purse which obviously greedy King did not like at all. At some point in 1988, Rooney got drunk and went on some telecast during a fight as a commentator and said some things about Robin Givens that Tyson didn't appreciate. Tyson, in response, wanted Rooney out for the next fight as a way of teaching him a lesson. Word got back to Rooney that he was not suspended for a fight but in fact flat out FIRED. He then sued Tyson claiming breach of contract. Tyson, now feeling completely betrayed, vowed never to work with Rooney again. A sad end to a great partnership. Had they stayed together, I believe Tyson would've fought and beaten both Holyfield and Lewis but oh well.
