Love this tune - "That's What Happened" from "Decoy." I thought that's what they were playing, but wasn't positive until they played the head at the end. Scofield's my favorite guitar player, and those who say this solo here is smoking hot are not wrong. Unbelievable. Agree that his tone is MUCH better now, but I've been a fan since '85, so I knew what to expect. Otherwise, his solo is amazing - even better than Berg's, which is pretty great, too. Awesome clip. Thanx!

@MultiT66 love his guitar tone during this period...he was always great but he has a true Fusion sound here...bebop phrasing blues and rock "bite" in the sound, one of his signature riffs around 10.58 love it...

You know why Sco is using 80s effects? Because this was recorded in the 80s my friend.

That band ass-whipped that jam. Gave it new life. KZitem is a World Wonder (#8, if you care to support that idea!). This is off of Miles' album "Jack Johnson". Go find it. It is a total trip. John McG is on guitar, which I'm not always impressed with, but check out a tune called "Right Off". You'll get the whole thing then. Innovation at its bold, tense and pure peak.

That opening riff, yes, that's the 'Right Off' them correct. but Miles renamed it, or more aptly, repackaged the riff into 'One Phone Call/Street Scenes', which is the opener here and was featured on his 1985 record 'You're Under Arrest'. kzitem.info/news/bejne/k3-mx5mKepallJg

The effects may be cheesy, but they are analog effects.

whew you can say that again....just sensational, man. And if he grew out the beard he'd look like Jesus on guitar! (Good Lord, what a solo) And I like that guitar tone myself (sounds like the stuff he recorded with Miles that I was familiar with) as his sound is immediately identifiable to me. All a matter of taste. And Miles is

mhm. definitely mutual influence. Prince even did some tracks for a Miles record, though they didn't quite fit in and were never used.

Scofield is a good player but his tone is crappy in this video :/ He's using cheesy 80s digital guitar effects.
