This is the military tactical HF SSB transceiver RT-1511/GRC-215, on an MT-6452/GRC-215 vehicular mount, as well as the man-pack configuration. This was the "team terminal" configuration of the AN/GRC-215 military radio installation, designed for the Regency Net, a "survivable" HF SSB mobile military radio network that was to be deployed in the European theater during the 1990s. It never got to that point because the cold war ended before it could be deployed. For more information about the Regency net see my video covering the GRC-215 shelterized transceiver.
The RT-1511 is an extremely robust man pack radio. It is an excellent performer, with a receiver that is very pleasant to listen to, and a superb modulation. The radio covers 2 to 30 MHz in 100Hz steps, selectable from the front panel. It can be programmed from the front panel for 29 memory channels. The radio is USB and LSB capable. RF output power is either 5 watts or 15 watts RF. The radio has a built-in automatic antenna tuner, that works with a motorized roller inductor and capacitor. The radio can be use with either the whip antenna or with an external antenna through the 50 ohms BNC jack. It takes two standard military BA5590 Lithium batteries, or external 24 to 28V supply voltage.
