Millennials are definitely a weird case where there hasn't been a moment in history where our generation WASN'T being hated for no reason. Gen X and Boomers were saying we were ruining the economy before the oldest millennials had even graduated high school and then Gen Z and Gen Alpha are saying we're old and ruining media/internet culture. Sorry but actually millennials INVENTED internet culture. We were the transitional generation that knows what it was like to grow up without the internet, but also young enough to be influenced by the internet. Millennials are the founding fathers/mothers of internet culture as we know it today.

I think this is really interesting as an older/mid gen z (2003). When I was just beginning middle school(2013), buzzfeed was super popular, along with reactionary channels like teens react that were dominated by millennials. 90s kids rhetorics were everywhere, older content like asdf movie, charlie the unicorn, etc were still popular enough. being a millenial was cool-so cool that i would try to convince myself that i was a millenial. crazy how things have flipped like my lack of capitalization apparenty

yea as another 2003 gen z i feel like people our age used to be the youngest on the internet, so that lead to us trying to copy millenials (i also used to say i was one lmao) in order to not seem as young as we actually were. i feel like 16-24 year olds is the age group that dictates what's cool online, so for those that grew up trying to emulate millenials are now completely rejecting it in order to create gen z specific subcultures

I think each generation feels like that, or at least I’m guessing it’s the case bc lately gen z is getting dunked on for looking old and gen x for going to Sephora and buying makeup ‚too early’ (which, if you put those two together is ironic but that’s another conversation). Like, I’m late gen z so that’s not technically aimed at me, but I’ve seen lots of millennials doing the ‚kids aren’t alright’ ‚gen x is doomed and can’t read’ ‚kids these days are getting worse’ kind of videos. I think everyone feels like their generation is being targeted by the other ones (or at least one, I’m chill with gen x, but I definitely don’t vibe with some millennial takes) and there’s no one true victim

@@godscomplex13 I think you're confused about who gen xers are. You can't be between gen z and gen x but be late gen z. Gen xers are the generation before millennials. I have zero idea if I count as Millennial or Gen Z. Born in '96. Every fuckin list of the specific cut off dates, for some reasin, will either shift whether 96 or 95 are the start/end, OR will include 96 in BOTH the end AND start, OR just exclude the year altogether. In my heart, I am Gen Z, as the whole point of Millennial was growing up with little modern tech, then being inundated with it in child/teenhood. I literally had this conversation with my coworkers and boss recently. Me and my coworkers are older gen z (age 22-25) and our boss is a younger millennial (age 32). We talked about how Millennial humor seems to center around "child-like" behavior (not necessarily immature, just child-like) and over exaggerated sounds and expressions. This can cause some cringe for gen z peeps since it seems immature, but isn't necessarily a reflection on maturity. Perhaps that's why we see a lot of disney adults that are millennials--as there seems to be an appeal for millennials to child-like humor/innocence and romanticizing "the old days" when we were kids. Not to say Gen z isn't cringe as well, but it's a different type for sure.

I'm really happy to see you upload again. 💖 If you remember correctly, the word cringe back in our day wasn't used, we used to say "LAME!" Since other people can decide what is and isn't cringe, then it doesn't exist, because it's just a personal opinion, and opinions are not facts. I remember that when I was learning what "cringe" was and I read "Don't Do This" I decided to do it even more, because I thought it would be funny to upset the special snowflakes who actually think that they can tell others what to do. 🤣 Also, I don't believe in generations, they are terms coined by social media, there's no real science behind them, you cannot slot a whole generation into a box and say that they are all the same, it doesn't make sense.

Such an amazing video cannot believe my favourite KZitemr has risen once more (Connie is Internet Jesus confirmed?)!! I remember when I was around 14 years old and you stopped posting are used to wish on angel numbers that you’d post that’s probably pretty cringe but I couldn’t care less lmao! But anyway I love this because I have found myself sitting there after watching a video or seeing something that made me cringe to the point of almost tears and wondering whether i’m cringing because it’s millennial or because it’s simply just genuinely unbearable to watch, because puppet pals many other things that are now considered millennial cringe still have me laughing and I’m not even a millennial. I think the problem is that in any generation there is going to be people that simply are not funny. Another thing is with the whole Eddie Munson thing, I have been a massive stranger things fan since it first came out and when I watched the last season with Eddie Monson I did love him. He was my favourite character because he was new and different and I related to him in some way And then for him to be seen as basically the poster child of cringe in our generation was devastating. I took all of my posts about stranger things down off my Instagram, I never talked about it to anyone anymore because I felt actual fear and embarrassment, and to be honest, I still do. but I think the reason stranger things fans and Eddie Monson fans were seen as these awful strange people was because most people in my generation that weren’t in more niche or anime fandoms had not experienced what it’s like to be in a fandom like that where people cosplayers the character and change their username to the characters last name and stuff. this has been happening in so many fandoms with so many characters for so long but because stranger things was seen as mainstream media before and then they introduced the character that people who like to cosplay and specifically neurodivergent people can relate to and attached to, it was this massive culture shock and now it’s almost criminal to say you liked him and it’s almost got to the point where you can’t say you liked the show at all it’s ridiculous. I love the idea of embracing the cringe and just liking what you like but when that can literally lose your friends and get you bullied over it it’s so hard to do that! in conclusion the Internet is getting more toxic by the day someone please get me out of here !

I'm 32 yo and mother, the biggest meme I remember from 2000s I remember was a true thing is, internet developers making pages with just "Hello World" was funny cringy. And some millennials peoples were used to say in chatbox of games at their first log in on a game to say "Hello World" to mock the developers generally. Caramel dansen and Nyan cats came later on, after the death of myspace. I also remember this change of vibes on internet between 2000s and 2008s where alot of respect on internet started to get lost....for some reason. (Especially in my country, France) But I also noticed it a little on some American website at that time. After that period I became a internet hermit where I was mainly going back on video game, roleplay website (similar to roll21) and chess game online. 😅

As a 33 year old, I can honestly say I'm very happy to have never used the word Roflcopter once Wonderful video Connie. You always have a great way of describing these sort of things in a fun and informative way

i think it seems so big too bc millennials have easy immediate access to peoples opinions on their generational humor. these kinds of opinions aren’t new at all but lots of millennials act like they’re the only generation to ever be hated on. i don’t think i’d feel that way but i totally understand why it seems that way. it’s the first time these opinions are so public !!

back in '07 our key club was voting in the new president, and we asked them questions as to why they'd be the right candidate. someone asked, "can you count alllll the way to shfifty-five?" And he did. And it was so. everyone went up in a roar. and he became the key club president.

Was smoking cigarettes and watching anime mutually exclusive? In my high school there was this group of emo/goth gay anime nerds (the only people I remotely fit in with) who all smoked cigarettes. One of them wore a Naruto headband to school, and I thought it was so cool lol.
