One of the dopest things about the roots is that they are a full band and the music comes from live instruments. Even the scretches are at times from a person beatboxing. Would love to see your reaction to Public Enemy.

This whole album is a masterpiece (Things Fall Apart) . This was the beginning of the soulquarian movement... (the soulquarians were a collective of artists that included The Roots, Common, erykah badu, J dilla, D'Angelo Mos Def, Talib kweli, etc etc). Definitely check out Blackstar or some Common from around that time. Blackstar songs to check: Astronomy (8th light) Respiration K.O.S (determination) Common songs to check: -Dooinit -the 6th sense -Nag Champa

The late 80s and 90s is a bottomless pit of lyricism!! So much yet to go - lots more Wu Tang and Roots and Nas, A Tribe Called Quest,, De La Soul, Mos Def & Talib Kweli, Phaoah Monch, Public Enemy, Rakim, KRS, Big Daddy Kane…. 🔥

Word! React to the whole album. Things Fall Apart. 🎤 🎤🎤🎤🎤 Black Thought is the truth. You really should check the Funk Flex freestyle he did soon and then go back to the Roots music. Or even some of Black Thought’s more recent songs “Conception” “Streets” “Thought vs Everybody.” I don’t know if they’re popular enough but they’re masterpieces to me.✌🏾

Yo Bri !!! You're doing yourself an injustice by not listening to "The Roots" in chronological order. My suggestion is start with "Do You Want More" wich is Album 2. If you listen to albums 2-6 in order, you'll get the best of their progression. It's your channel though. It's just a suggestion from a big Roots fan from back in the day...
