Sadly, the reason this film didn't do well was that it was the first and only Disney animated film without musical numbers, essentially causing kids to lose interest in what is a very well done film.

Man, I was a kid and I loved it. Musical numbers in most disney films were some cringe you had to endure, some of them were catchy. I think what you mean is the lack of musical numbers caused parents to lose interest. They're the ones who pay for the tickets you know.

I think it deliberately has been *said* to have done mediocrily in order to not oversell one of the most important childrens movies ever made. This is the story of the origin/survival of higher knowledge on this planet afterall. You don't want to destroy a movie like that by getting a minor detail like music wrong by accidentally making the music sound too modern or primitive. At the end of the day, this movie is based on the same catastrophe that killed off ALL megafauna of the northern hemisphere. NOT including a soundtrack emphasises the reality of this story, - compared to the more mythical tone of their talking-animal and mythical-beast themed movies.

@TheJFGB93
Жыл бұрын
Actually, even though Disney does record the actors when they're doing their lines at the recording booth, most of the animation and expressions are created by the animators, only using the video recording when they think they need it (example: the Genie transforming into Pinocchio for a second in Aladdin). Even more: I believe an animator once said that the reason they record video of their actors is because they get better line readings of the actors think they are physically acting for a public (when they come from cinema and/or theatre).
@transsnack
Жыл бұрын
@@TheJFGB93 so, I'm in school for animation. The recordings are for reference, then you animate while referring to the different frames of the reference video. People don't naturally squash and stretch and exaggerate like animations do, so it can be hard to find good references without just making them yourself. Edit: also, doing the motions yourself can make it easier to get the "feel" of the motion into your animation. If your muscles hurt doing a motion, then it'll likely read as unnatural and painful in an animation. If you can feel the stretch of a motion, you know to stretch your character into the motion. If your back hurts when you straighten up, then your character's back will also, likely, hurt lol. It gives you more dynamic and lifelike motion and feeling.
@TheJFGB93

@@transsnack Ah, I forget that animators now have access to cameras to record themselves to help them with some of the animation. My mind still thinks of people with mirrors for that part. Voice acting has lots of expression in order to sound well, something that we hear in an animated movie or cartoon is usually overreacted during recording This being said, the way these lines are delivered usually come in gestures the voice actors do in order to get more of the feel for the way they say, which serve as amazing reference for what to animate for a characters dialogue

I think this would have been extra amazing if this was a series. Don't get me wrong, I love the movie. It's just this one had sooooooooo much story to tell. It's interesting lore was thiccc and 1 hour and 30 minutes of time is so not enough. I've noticed it several times in the movie, where the pacing seemed rush as if to achieve a deadline. It's because of the time constraint of a fil not enough for the scale it was. There's so much story to tell. The first few minutes of the film was already so interesting by itself. If this was a series, they could do a series of flashback that showed Atlantis in its prime, and then they slowly reveal the events that lead to the cataclysmic event that eventually ended Atlantis. Even the exploration towards Atlantis could been expanded too. It's not just the lore, it's chuck full of unique and interesting characters as well. Kida and Milo's interaction in the movie was one of my favorite part. I could immediately feel the connection, chemistry, and compatibility. Kida is such an amazing female character. From the first time she was introduced, I've always felt safe and interested with her. Why? Because she's so kind and friendly and yet at the same time she can be so fearless and fierce. That scene in the waters was cool. She immediately got to work and beat up almost every mercenary there. She's a princess but she was also a warrior. What I even like about her was that she was never condescending to the outsiders, to Milo. She was so genuinely interested to share her culture with them and also learn their culture. TL;DR: This amazing movie deserved a longer run time.

Disney’s idea of a remake is “Hey, I bet if we just made it live action but don’t care about making the storie good at all, people will still come to see it right? I mean all people really want is to see characters in live action!”

John Krasinski as Milo, Zoey Saldana as Kida, Josh Brolin as Commander Rourke, Scarlet Johansson as Helga, Charlie Day as The Mole, John Turturro as Vinny, Mike Colter as Dr. Joshua, Mark Hamill as Cookie, Bryan Cranston as King Nedakh. That's my fantasy casting if they ever did a live action take on this film.
