Loved watching Mecir. He took the ball early and seemed to hold onto it forever. Mecir and Ramesh Krishnan were both great to watch.

Miloslav was so talented. An amazing 2HBH, an okay FH and almost no serve. But still he was every Swede’s nightmare and a tough match for Ivan in his prime. Once Lendl was asked “is it true that you don’t know where Mecir is aiming at with his strokes?” and he said:”Of course I don’t since he doesn’t know that too” LOL. Too bad Miloslav never won a Grand Slam Tournament!
Mecir! The most mysterious (looks so effortless, relaxed, even sleepy yet could accelerate at any moment etc etc =o), puzzling, yet strangely fascinating tennis player I've known. I believe he was an Alien who had some sort of time-space distorting field around him. Lendl looks so 'normal' or human against him. My all-time favorites are Edberg-Rafter-Federer-Guga but try to guess who is the most intriguing player to watch :) Thanks for uploading this clip!! Happy TG 2018

I try to keep Mecir in mind when I play my pathetic tennis game. What a game he had. A lot to learn from him. How about some of his moves at 5 all 40-30 Lendl? Not a bet get. I have a vhs tape of Mecir making Connors and Noah look sick at the '89 Palm Springs tournament. Love it. He is my favorite and I had the opportunity to speak with him in New Haven as he coached his protege, Kucera.

From a strictly aesthetic point of view, this was one of Big Cat's greatest exhibitions, second just to his very famous victory over Mats Wilander the following year, perhaps the most outstanding festival of artistic tennis ever seen at Wimbledon!

Few idiots here have described the Big Cat as a pusher. U have no clue what your talking about. He was surpremely talented, took pace off the ball and then speed it up with no effort. Moved beautifully, incredible balance, took the ball early and pushed players around the court with ease when in form. Saw him play live several times and was awesome, unfortunately succumbed to back issues and retired. He coached top 10 player Karol Kurcera in late 90's and watched him coach, way more impressive than his student even though retired 8 years earlier. This match was 1 of his best.

Agree, for his size, his serve was average. Talent wise as mentioned, movement, ground strokes, volleying and smart. His service motion wasn't good and as you said, held him back from winning a major. Considering how close he came to it and could make other top players look silly, it's a shame his back injury retired him to early. Cheers

Mecir was the greatest player to never win a GS event. I'll never forget his Wimbledon '88 semifinal against Edberg - he was 6-4, 6-2 up, and even in the 5th set, leading 3-1 at one point. Such a shame.

Mecir's working of the backhand recalls Nalbandian's, Hewitt's and Coria's in their respective primes. It's like they held the ball on a dime, yet it wasn't hit all that hard (a la say Safin)

@Dman9fp
3 жыл бұрын
On talk tennis forums, hearing he used wood until he retired from injury (& apparently model he used was more wood than the rackets he endorsed, paint job over what he actually used like pros nowadays). But he seems more about foot-speed and using angles than relying on a powerful stuff racket anyways. Here's an interesting quote I found about Laver talking about a wood composite racket in the same thread "Now in a interview Rod Laver who played with the golden ace said this about that racket: "When I played with a dunlop racket, wooden racket. I changed over to a pro Kennex, a thing called the golden ace, I remember it, that was like one of the first mid size the silver ace and the golden ace. And I thought this game is so bloody easy now I can go back on the tour again. I could serve harder. I could smash. I could volley" " (McEnroe has of course said similar things about max200g over wooden rackets, tho imo max200g isn't that much of an upgrade besides slightly bigger sweetspot and slightly more power, but then again I'm no pro)
