Why limit to bamboo? Yes, its a good initiative but we could plant indigenous trees as well. Reforestation would be beneficial as the country is an agricultural one to begin with. Hope its not too late to preserve and develop our natural resources and attain self sufficience through going back to our roots and traditions.

@HandsomeGuy, Imho, if the structure is parallel to the mountain slope, it would be easier for a strong wind to lift the entire structure up. Whereas, the most damage a strong wind can do to how it's situated now, is to lose some roof shingles. Imagine the structure as an umbrella--With the shade down, going vs the direction of the wind, you just have to hold the handle firmly to survive the wind. Facing the opposite direction, your umbrella and you will be completely blown away by the wind. Therefore, this structure needs a very strong foundation. Nevertheless, strong typhoons are almost impossible to survive if the structure isn't made of concrete.

It might be a good idea to still seal any bamboo structure with something akin to Flex Seal to protect them from bugs and fungi/mold. I don't think the chemicals in the seal will be palatable to any kind of bugs. I would hate to have all the effort put in pre-treating the bamboo before using them as building materials go to waste. Rain water can always wash out any treatment of wood with time. So, water-proofing them might really be a good additional protection, especially from mold.

This by far the most educational video you've made and it's all about bamboo starting from humble beginning - rooting, to planting, to harvesting, to curing and to raw material. It's versatility is limitless, all it takes is a little imagination and creativity to convert into something. I've read an article that said bamboo flooring or walling regulate the humidity inside a house. There are also studies that suggest that bamboo leaves has medicinal properties to it "tea". Thank you Kyle for taking us with you exploring the benefits of Bamboo. I like that you captured in your drone the valley giving me (us) glimpse of the area and the structure being built - their uniqueness. Looked very healthy surroundings you guys are in.

Wow! Actually my interest in building structures made of bamboos started when I was studying in UP Open University (no wonder Jed takes interest in this venture since sustainability is being cultivated in the hearts and minds of all Iska/Isko). From there, since I am an education major, I did some research on holistic education which is being offered at Green School Bali Indonesia that also integrates building sustainable structures. I hope to build my own Green School in Mindoro someday. I hope, I could attend Jed's camp in the future and learn more about bamboos-- from cultivation to building structures. Could you ask him Kulas if they have projects in some parts of Mindoro because my family is currently residing there and from what I've heard, there are parts of Mindoro that are also promoting the use of bamboo in furniture making. It would be great if Mindoreños would learn more about bamboos not just as the main material for furnitures but also building structures and as one of the sustainable sources.
