"MIND GAMES" We're playing those mind games together Pushing the barrier, planting seed Playing the mind guerilla Chanting the mantra, "peace on Earth" We all been playing those mind games forever Some kind of Druid dude, lifting the veil Doing the mind guerilla Some call it magic, the search for the grail Love is the answer And you know that, for sure Love is the flower You gotta let it, you gotta let it grow So keep on playing those mind games together Faith in the future, out of the now You just can't beat on those mind guerillas Absolute elsewhere, in the stones of your mind Yeah, we're playing those mind games forever Projecting our images in space and in time Yes is the answer And you know that for sure Yes is surrender You gotta let it, you gotta let it go So keep on playing those mind games together Doing the ritual, dance in the sun Millions of mind guerillas Putting their soul power to the karmic wheel Keep on playing those mind games forever Raising the spirit of peace and love Love Love! I want you to make love, not war I know you've heard it before

I think mind guerrillas is about the transformation a person must go through to evolve, become something new. John really liked "Mind Games: the guide to inner space" by Jean Houston and Robert Masters, it is a book of mind training exercises to help expand consciousness (very much a 1960's thing).

This was written during the Vietnam War, the tactics of the Vietnamese were commonly referred to as Gorilla warfare. They would hide and attack from the jungle fight and slip back to the jungle. Mind gorillas, would do the same, attack the orthodoxy, with new ideas, leaving the accepted mode of thought, bruised and battered. They were political, spiritual gorillas fighting for peace and love and a greater understanding and acceptance

Only solo album I ever got by John and this song was the reason I did. IMO best solo releases were from George and have all his albums, followed by Paul (but only have up to & including "Band On The Run", then he just got a little to pop for my taste).

Much of Lennon’s post-Beatles work is only great in the context of his previous work; things he has divulged anout himself. Don’t misunderstand me though, this is trult a great tune. Without his body of work, though, I question whether we would still be discussing it 50 years later. What a remarkable contribution Lennon has made!
