Our minds are primed by evolutionary biology to quickly access past experiences and predict the future. Can the practice of mindfulness transform the impact of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE’s)? Dr. Richard Nongard shares his own experience with transforming ACE’s by living fully in the present and how current research shows these same methods are transforming the lives of others with high ACE’s. The big idea is that to free yourself from the predictors of the past, people must harness the power of the moment. Our minds want to live in the past or anticipate the future, and it takes practice to intuitively move our awareness into the present and not miss this moment. Dr. Nongard shares how educators, mental health professionals and criminal justice professionals can work with even the most difficult clients and create lasting transformation by training others in mindfulness-based awareness. Dr. Nongard shares a simple strategy for doing this, based on the evidenced-based protocols of Contextual Psychology. Dr. Richard Nongard is the author of “Viral Leadership: Seize the Power of Now to Create Lasting Transformation in Business” and numerous other leadership and psychology textbooks. He is a sought-after specialist in business psychology and corporate culture. He is also a licensed psychotherapist, who specializes in ACT Therapy, Mindfulness Based-Stress Reduction, and Ericksonian Psychotherapy. He has crossed boundaries, teaching both his mental health clients and corporate clients the lasting strategies of mindfulness to experience unlimited transformation in both their personal and professional lives. He has a master’s degree in counseling, and his doctorate in Transformational Leadership (Cultural Engagement) was earned at Bakke Graduate University in Dallas. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx
