The Mac&Windows instruction link doesn't work. Would you mind please posting a link to anywhere of the instructions to build this? It looks like the components used were two Lego Mindstorm EV3 expansion packs put together. Is that correct? Thanks very much!

Why do you use four motors? You can have one for the first and one for the back and one for driving. The middle part doesn't need a motor... Correct my if I'm wrong.

Paul Klop He actually uses five motors. One for the front part to drive, one for the middle part to drive and one for the back part to drive. Then, there are also two motors for lifting up all the parts , one for front/middle and one for back/middle.

Paul Klop I'm sorry, i was wrong ☺️. He uses four motors, the wheels at the front don't need one. It needs two motors (back & middle) because if it only has a motor for the back wheels, it gets stuck if it has the front and the middle on the next stair and it lifts up the back. The back will not touch the stairs (only the front and the middle do) and it will be stuck. If it has only one motor for the middle part, it will get stuck if the middle part is lifted up, because then only the front & back part touch the stairs. On the front part it won't work eighther becouse if the front part is lifted up, it needs to drive forward to get the front part on the next stair, but only the front part (hanging in air) has got a motor, so that won't work.

Great project man, but I'm wondering how many man-hours and how much money you must've invested in that. Damn LEGO just sucks the life out of everything, the world should completely shift to open-source stuff.

This seems like a good architecture. Possible next steps: go down, various stair sizes, winding staircases, carrying weight, etc. towards a real assistant robot at home.

@dannyleung2796

Kimiri, No it cannot come down. If you look closer to understand how this thing works, you can see that it uses a bumper or some sort of sensor to detect a "wall" ahead and starts climbing. There is no "wall" in the front in a coming down situation. That thing will just come off the edge and fall miserably.
@xsalty_5435

The sensor can point to the ground to scan if there is ground beneath it, if there isn't it will go down, if there is, it won't.
@dannyleung2796

xSalty, Easier said than done. The bumper/sensor also acts a mechanical stopper to ensure a perpendicular alignment with the wall for a stable climb. A downward scanning sensor cannot align mechanically. If the vehicle arrives at the edge at some angles other than 90 degrees and starts lowering the first section without total clearance... You can imagine the result.
