No matter how many mods I install... non of them give purpose; a reason to make a shelter, limitations to overcome without adding needless difficulty and Structures that overshadow whatever you would build yourself. I find heavy gimmicks, I enjoy game changing stuff like "Better Combat" and "Create", but why can't I find a good overhang limitation mod that doesn't make any structure crumble once one block it broken? Why are there no finite dynamic fluid mods even close to up to date? But my problem is I don't know what I want; what could make me enjoy minecraft.

Yeah, this makes a lot of sense. I've always hated the open ended survival games likes minecraft. Partly because the endless options give me paralyzing anxiety, but also because I like having a purpose. Like, Palworld, I didn't think I would enjoy it because I dont like pokemon, or survival games, or open world games that much. And yet I spent two irl days breeding the perfect Rayhound because of the desire to see what creatures were out there. They almost all have meaningful interactions or fun designs (*mostly legally distinct designs), in minecraft the different biome restricted mobs are pointless. Cows, horses, chicken, sheep, and pigs are in abundance and basically do everything you'd need. Minecraft has a "goal," technically speaking, kill the ender dragon, but it is not conducive to the main point of the game, nor is the fight very engaging. While I fell out of Valheim after a failed run with the VR mod it is very similar to palworld's drive to explore, bosses, unique items and creatures. Minecraft's reward for exploring is... frankly mostly ugly blocks and loot you could have made at home or gotten from a villager.

I agree. For me, a game like this needs an incentive to build things. If I want to make something creative with as few restrictions as possible, I'm just going to use a 3D software tool.

If purposeful megastructure building is what you want out of minecraft, I'd recommend fortifying a village and then engaging with the raid mechanic. I'd like to see more stuff like that. Maybe port over the goblin and pirate invasions from Terraria, where fortification is either too easy or completely pointless.

Minecraft is a game without boundaries but you can set them for yourself. If you start a single player survival world with the villager rebalance enabled and force yourself to never stripmine your progression will be way slower, which forces you to make more houses and settlements in order to ensure your survival. Force yourself to not use coördinates. Only rely on features in game so that you need to make recognisable landmarks and only use compass and maps so you need to make sure you can find your way around your world. It greatly improves the experience, for me atleast.

The problem I have with sandbox games is that I only do the things that are absolutely necessary to reach the end of the game while ignoring all the optional creative possibilities.

Couldn’t agree more, the times I was most excited for building in Minecraft was building mob farms because there was a purpose to make it. Also why I really like the Terraria happiness mechanic, it encourages me to make more builds throughout the world.

I feel like the point of Minecraft, is that it has no point. Personally I don't play the more recent updates, instead I play on the older versions of the game (really anything from alpha to 1.7.10, but mostly beta 1.7.3), the building isn't any more rewarding in terms of gameplay, actually it's less rewarding than in the modern versions of the game, but that's why I like it, because it doesn't reward you, and that is the point. Everything you do is your decision, the point of Minecraft is to give you a sandbox, and let you do whatever you want inside of it. If you need a purpose to build, that's fine, but for people like me (who find that having a reason to build, makes them want to build less) Minecraft is essentially a PERFECT-ly pointless game. As a note, I would recommend trying out beta 1.7.3, there was a long time where I just hated playing Minecraft; but when I picked up this version, I instantly fell in love with the game again.

I find it so difficult to get back into Minecraft. It definitely feels like it's missing something nowadays. However, it doesn't change the fact I've already sunk 10,000+ hours into it over the last decade or so. Therefore, I can't really complain. I just move on to other games.

I can definetly enjoy spending time building a big and awesome house or something, but i need something more, or else im just never gonna want to log in and even use the house i built. And with how little content there really is in the game, i feel no desire to spend time on anything.

Idk man I haven't been able to play vanilla Minecraft in close to a decade. I've been playing modded Minecraft since at least 1.3 but fully switched over to modded only in 1.7.10. The magic and charm of vanilla has been gone for me for a long time and I of course still love modded Minecraft but vanilla just feels pointless to me. Like yeah I can spend hours getting full netherite gear or making a massive house but why do I need those things especially singleplayer or in a non-pvp server. Thinking about it further I think it has to do with goals actually. While the enjoyment is the journey not the destination, the lack of a real destination kills Minecraft for me. Back when I was a kid playing 1.0 the Ender Dragon was a real challenge for me it was a goal I had to prepare for. There was no benefit to killing the dragon but it still was a challenge to be faced. Nowadays the dragon could be raced to in less than 10 minutes. After that every goal is arbitrary. Terraria and Valheim have bosses that you need to prepare for you can't just walk in with a few beds and end the game. Modded Minecraft on the other hand has real tangible challenges to achieve like various bosses, or powering a rainbow furnace, or anything else. I love Minecraft but I don't think I will ever be able to enjoy vanilla again unfortunately, I have played the game since late alpha and whether it be due to my age or a change in the game itself a lot of the charm isn't there anymore.

If i want to waste my time making 3d houses etc. I might as well get some 3d software and start making my own game world. A game that has no goal or rules is not a game because those are the things that make it a game. Minecraft is no different then MS paint but its in 3d and you can attach commands to various pixels aka blocks, but since there are no rules its just an open canvas and not really a game.

Honestly minecraft is dog, but it gets a pass because its the first crafting survival sandbox style game most people play (and its great for kids unlike most other survival games). It has less content than most abandoned early access games. I have waited years for meaningful updates but its honestly embarrassing, and people should not defend it. t. 2010 minecraft enjoyer

The Minecraft devs are too scared to make good changes. I want something as different as the combat update or change things that haven't been touched in years like the inventory or crafting. One mid update every year with a meaningless mob vote isn't gonna make the players stick around.

i mean minecraft is more like a kid game (you dont care about some shit like if spending a year making a palace make a sense), Almost everyone who bor after 2004 played minecraft at their childhood. and this is the worst, when you start playing alone minecraft you will feel alone and nostalgic. And there is a lack of this childish "i don't care" Even now most of things in my life are good and i doesnt wanna pernamently go back. thats still that weird feeling that you will never be a kid again. We are only gonna become older and this shit is scarry. Last 5 years fells like a month and multible it by a 10 and i am 68 years old (WTF) Its just a burning memory

Try Vintage Story. For me it was the game that managed to give me kind of similar feelings which was when i first played Minecraft, basically second time in my life. It is in active developement rn by independent developer, and already feels like it can offer more than vanilla Minecraft. Basically it feels kind of like "Minecraft" for those who grown up already. About Minecraft itself, well, i think it is just too aged for now, as basically it seems like its history as standalone game mostly ended in 2014, when giga-corp Microsoft bought it and obviously put their efforts mostly only onto turning it from "game" into a "product", focusing more on income rather than new gameplay or user-experience.

Thanks for the feedback! trying some different things to keep a cohesive vibe/atmosphere without detracting from anything. Might have to stick with raw gameplay for the most part, maybe some kind of transition between live shots could work. Something that goes away a few seconds after the transition. Anyways, thanks for watching!
