On my original Apprentice I use Walmart rubber bands and they are awesome. I got my alternative back in 2013, and still flies line a dream, although it doesn't uses the original receiver anymore. Now my plane is entirely manual... Nice video though! 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽

Reversed input for the ailerons is possible because you have normal and reversed servo's. One side has a normal servo, other side reversed. The aileron signal is sent to both but the reversed one will invert the signal. Very smart to do it that way ;).

Hey thank you for sharing this, I flew this one and it was amazing. First flight with this thing over 10 knots wind and I could handle it :D ps: I got the Durafly Efxtra and I will put my as3x into my efxtra so I can fly it. Flew it 2 times w/o as3x but it was too hard. I got a question which gopro do you use? Thanks mate and great day

No problem! I have multiple GoPros, but I use a GoPro hero session for my R/C stuff. They usually run for ~$200 new, here is one that is refurbished: www.amazon.com/GoPro-Session-Waterproof-Certified-Refurbished/dp/B06XWLWH6Y/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1539535080&sr=8-1-spons&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=gopro+session&psc=1

I'm debating on buying the mini Apprentice OR the Carbon Cub S+ 1.3M. Thanks for the review
@JTRC

If you are new to the hobby, pick up the Carbon Cub. The Carbon Cub is far better to learn off of. The Mini Apprentice is roughly the same in terms of teaching you how to fly but Carbon Cub S+ has some more bulletproof features that WILL NOT LET YOU CRASH. The Carbon Cub S+ that I flew (a buddy lent me one for a week or so to try it out) made me feel like it was a better option for beginners. Carbon Cub was also equipped with auto land/take off. This is my rundown: Mini Apprentice S - Good to learn, can do nothing more than teach you how to fly really. Carbon Cub S+ - Better to learn off of (because it is equipped with newer and better technology), can be fun to fly as a sport flyer when you feel comfortable. In other terms, you can throw the Carbon Cub around a lot more when you get comfortable flying and are past that "beginner" stage.

@@JTRC Which one handles the wind better? Thanks
@jarrett1890

@@HEADBANGRR Thats a hard one for me to answer. I didnt get enough time with the Carbon Cub to draw a conclusion on wind handling. Judging by the technology, Carbon Cub probably handles better in wind. FYI, I would try and fly on a low or no wind day. Once your skill goes up you will become able to handle more wind. You will also get a better feel for how the plane handles if there is no wind present. Best tip(s) I can give on your first flight is: No wind Slow and small stick inputs. I see beginners like to yank the stick viciously and it can create a bad habit for later on. Obviously if you feel the need to yank the stick, do it. Flitetest has some great videos on first flights.

I am glad to see someone doing a long term review. I wish they would have had it available back when I bought the Large one. I beat the living poo out of my Apprentice and demolished it the very first day I started flying. I expoxied it back together and had it flying that night. The larger Apprentice had really strong propellers. All the Cowles on all the planes are flimsy. I put 6 on my Apprentice.Sounds like the smaller Apprentice has all the same issues as the larger ones. I had up to 4 full size Apprentices, now I have none. Most I got resale for $100 and sold them for more. Now I wish I had kept at least one.

To this day I do not crash often. But every time I put one of my models in the air I make a mental note that it may not come down as intended. Usually I only crash these days when either there is waaaaaay too much wind or because I am willing to do and try stupid things acrobatically that risk the model. Either way, its a hobby I love. I could get 5 flights out of every model I own before I crash them and still love this hobby.

Great video !! How long could you fly with 1300 mha battery ?? 15 minutes??
@jarrett1890
3 жыл бұрын
Probably looking at just under 10 mins if you fly with a somewhat conservative throttle speed. The more you pin the motor, the quick the battery runs out of juice.

Usually about 10 mins. They tend to last a bit longer in warmer temps, I get 10 mins when its 80 farenheit outside.

The stock 1300 mah 11.1v? Ive been able to pull off 10-15 min flights just cruising around, not really going above 3/4 throttle. The amp draw is really high at full throttle compared to 3/4 throttle for some reason on this ESC and motor setup.
@SportbikeUnitedRiderz

on the stock wow not bad so I imagine a bigger 200 mAH battery probably even more? they probably fit in the compartment?
@jarrett1890
5 жыл бұрын
Yeah the 2600 mah that I sometimes run can go over 20 mins easily, but the plane does not prefer that much weight, so you do need to stay heavy on the throttle. I use the bigger battery for when I am using my FPV system. Landing in ~8mph wind with that heavy battery is sketchy to say the least.

Have you used the same rubber bands for two years?
@jarrett1890
4 жыл бұрын
When I bought the plane at my local hobby store I made a smart decision to buy extra bands (I got a box of 20 of them from hobbico for like 5$). After owning the plane for 3 months, cold fall came here in Michigan and I think that is what ended up breaking the stock rubber bands. The hobbico ones last forever and retain their stretchiness. I am pretty sure I am still using the first bands taken out of the hobbico box. I hate the idea of securing the wing with rubber bands, but it works, and I can see why they designed it that way for a weak point in the case of a crash. My plane still flies as of last weekend. Safe Landings!
