Is the fix still ok, as my machine shop won't reseat the valve seat as they are prone to dropping again?

The n12 and n16 variants seem to drop inlet valve seats, rebuilt my partners Cooper this summer after one of the inlet valve seats from cylinder 4 dropped out. Did some serious damage, required new pistons as well as a head repair. Replacing piston rings sorted out the oil consumption issue associated with these engines, went from 800 miles per litre to zero. Now for readers, if your n12/16, possibly n18 is misfire when hot at idle and if you disconnect a cam sensor the misfire stops - you have a faulty inlet valve seat. Stop using it and have it repaired - you will need to find someone who is prepared to take the head off.
