I heard people talking about the mosfets blowing out on the circuit board after a short time. Is your spot welder still working fine?

If we recall the problem of transistor burnout at low voltage, what will happen when the battery is discharged or degrades over time ?

It could be. Mine still works but I always fully charge it before I work with it.

is it better than BIFRC with LCD display? because as i know BIFRC with LCD have ability to set the delay

I don't have the BIFRC to compare, I did have had a similar one and was able to weld just 0.10mm strips.

Hey ... good to watch one of your videos again. This welder is of interest to me, as I don't have one, and I've been soldering the 0.010 or 0.015 nickle strips to attach batteries.. which works, but is not great. For less than $70 USD, it seems worth it. They even have it in the US Banggood warehouse, which is good. I wonder if you could use this to weld Alkaline battery packs .. or LiPo. I do use Li-ION (18650 cells) in various things, so it would be good for that. Might be good to make a new battery pack for a drone. Cheers old friend!

Hello Bill, I'm glad that you are still following my videos. I have just tested the welder on a normal AA alkaline battery (Varta brand) and it welds 0.15mm nickel strip without any problems, it does it from level ~ 8. When I have ripped the tab off it simply ripped from the strip while the nickel has remained on the battery, so it a good weld from my point of view.

@@TechTronic9000 I ordered one, and it should arrive sometime this week. I wish I had it when I was making up an 18650 battery pack a few weeks ago! I'm sure I'll use it ... looks like a good tool! All the best, and Happy Holidays/New Year to you!

No, this is for spot weld nickel plates with a thickens up to 0.2 - 0.25mm at most.

Running off 8.4V is a better idea than 3.7. My 3,7V welders are worn out after a couple hundred welds. No pop left in the battery..

Yes, I also had a 3.7V one and it's didn't have such power, it only worked OK for 0.10mm strips.

this spot welder may work on 18650 with .1 to maybe .15 strips, but it's way too small for what I needed it for, 32700 with 0.2 pure nickel strip

The PCB in this one still runs off the same terrible 4n04r8 mosfets the 3.7v ones use, when they fail it burns a hole right through whatever you are welding & the tips stick. also i really wish someone would design a decent double pulse version. I've had 2 different portable welders fail due to 4n04r8 mosfets they really do suck unfortunately
@TechTronic9000

I haven't taken it apart to check the mosfets, this model was sold for years and there were a lot of "mods", "fixes" and issues. For now thiis model still works trouble free, already used it for some of my projects and it's OK.

This spot welder performs incredibly well. However, as you mentioned at this point: 10:50 The weld cables are NOT properly secured internally, and are soldered to the battery tabs, leading to fatigue and, when the tabs break, a dead short. This is incredibly dangerous and the unit should NOT be sold because of this. It is unfortunate that yet again, China let themselves down by building otherwise a very good, sellable product, but let down by poor quality control and penny pinching.
@TechTronic9000

True, that happens to most cheap stuff, but still this unit work great even after all this time, just used it a few days ago and it didn't disappoint me doing some thicker 0.15mm bad quality nickel.
@Thingamajigs

@@TechTronic9000 im glad, they are good spot welders it's just unfortunate that they have a terrible Quality Control issue. I got one myself, in fact because it performed so well i decided to buy the "newer" version that has the removable weld wires from the unit, hoping i could instead use that over that of the dangerous old version. Sadly though, i recieved the new unit and it didn't work. So i instead removed some of it's internals and made my "old" unit safer by making it's wires removable like the later variant. So my welder is a mish mash between the new and old versions, and so far works great. Bit concerned about the mosfet failure issue though, hope that doesn't happen to me!

Maybe you have an older version or something else that looks similar. This is probably made in thousand of different factories throughout China. My unit still works perfectly and I have moderate usage on it, especially with 0.15mm pure nickel and nickel plated strips doing various 18650 battery builds.
