Very cool looking hollow form. That additional cap really sets off the burl

Great video. I love the ebony top on the hackberry, this gives me an idea of how to finish vessels that are not smooth inside. Second, I also have the Laurent's hollowing tools in the 1/4" size. They are great for small hollow forms.

Yes, with a really small opening like this, you don’t have to worry about sanding, huh? 🤓

I'm always a bit wary of these kinds of tools. I know you're supposed to sharpen them by hand with a diamond file, but surely, over time, you're going to need to take them back to the grinder, and I wonder how long before you can't use it anymore?

Yes, I agree with what you’re saying. I have a 180 grit CBN wheel. I would just lightly touch it on that enough to produce a burr. But I think overtime, the cutting edge will be gone. But it should last long while. Sam

Faceplates are under-rated! I do a good deal of segmented work, and often have 2 or 3 projects underway at a time, many using split turnings. Without my faceplates, I would have to invest a small fortune in more chucks, plus I think I get a firmer hold with a faceplate once the glue is cured.

You make a very good point about using a face plate instead of a Scroll Chuck. Never really thought about that but it’s a great point I like to use face plates in several situations and agree that they are really underrated. Thanks, Sam.

Nice hollow form Sam! I use a 75/25 lacquer/ thinner combination. Are you using a combination or straight lacquer? Take care, Dave

Hi Dave, no I always send my lacquer down. Usually in the container, the lacquer thinner evaporates so I have to add more. Sam
