those audio-jack style av adapters are not standardized at all. everyone that makes one makes it differently, so try using various different ones and switching around the connectors. also when you reflow solder for a dry solder joint it's best to remove as much of the old solder as you can and replace it with new solder.

Most headphone or audio jacks have small pins inside that can be bent back into place if its not working correctly. Most likely what happened was it wore out and the pins cant make good contact anymore. I have fixed countless controllers with this issue without replacing the headphone jack. Hope this helps!

So, one thing you can try, swap audio and video signals on the a cable you're using. I've had to do a similar thing to use the AV signals on my raspberry pi. Those jacks aren't standardized across the world. The US, UK and Japan use different standards for pretty much all of those.
@renakunisaki
3 жыл бұрын
So these 3.5mm A/V Jack's are awful for a few reasons: 1. There are at least 4 different standards for how they're wired. If you're lucky, you can get away with just swapping the plugs (video will be on red or white instead of yellow). But some swap the position of video and ground, so a cable not designed for that will produce an inverted signal! (If the picture is scrambled and has a white and pink strip along the right side, that's what's happening.) 2. A lot of headphones only have three connectors, so when you plug them into a 4-connector jack, they actually short two of the connectors. Some devices are clever enough to detect this and change the jack configuration, but otherwise you'll end up with only one speaker working, or a horrible buzz, or no video while they're plugged in. (In the latter case it means the video is shorted to ground, which is _probably_ harmless, but not really worth the risk of damaging the device?) 3. Just because a cable has a 4-connector jack, doesn't mean it has 4 wires inside. >8^(

I did some testing with my LVD-404 model, and it seems like the video signal comes through using a stereo sound jack, that is TRRS type, even if the TV doesn't seem to even use the other sound channel. However, sound channel goes through the jack tip, and video is the collar ring after it. Cause you seem to be using a mono sound jack (TRS), the need for delicate alignment might be due to the video ring not making a firm contact?
@johnny555
3 жыл бұрын
If you haven't fixed it and by your description of having to position the jack just so. The signal is probably crossing over multiple contact points. Try coating the connector in nail varnish, then inserting it and spinning it, hopefully it'll scratch off just the varnish at the correct contact points. You could also try just connecting an AV cable directly to the solder points.

Given the Seiko TV is from a Japanese auction then it's probably NTSC only. If you're trying to input a PAL signal the resultant video output will have noticeable colour distortion, which can't be corrected due to the differences in how NTSC and PAL are each encoded. Try inputting a NTSC signal through it (if you happens to own a video/game device capable of NTSC output ) and see if it makes any difference.
@Blueyzachary

I mentioned on the previous video that there are many different configurations for those 3.5mm AV jacks - the ones made for video cameras etc tend to be different to those made for game consoles. What I'd suggest doing is test the jack internally to work out which contacts are audio, ground and composite. Or you could just trial & error it by switching the RCA cables over while playing a source, if you have a cable that splits them out.
@orinokonx01
3 жыл бұрын
I would suggest it needs a good recapping, they would be quite dry after all these years. Regarding the AV connection itself, as others have pointed out it probably uses its own pinout, so the adapter you're using is slightly misaligned to what it is expecting (as you suggested having to swap the A and V). One other thing, it probably uses a CCFL tube for the backlight, and that might be a bit tired after all these years. I wonder how difficult it would be to swap them for diffused LEDs, bypassing the CCFL high voltage circuit in the LCD module, etc... Overall, a great little unit!

It would be very hard if you were not physically present in Japan, or you had a Famicom (HVC-001) or Super Famicom with you. Up until 2011 (2012 for Fukushima, Iwate, and Miyagi Prefectures), Japan used a modified version of NTSC. The NTSC channels that used to be broadcast in North America are at lower frequencies than those in Japan. For example, NTSC-M (the NTSC used in North America) Channel 12 carried analog video at 205.25 MHz, while Japanese Channel 12 carried analog video at 217.25 MHz (which was, ironically, the frequency that TV Tokyo used to broadcast before analog broadcasts in most of Japan were terminated). And people keep saying that US Channel 95 is equivalent to Japanese Channel 1. However, to get Japanese Channel 1 working on a North American CRT TV, your TV MUST support analog cable TV, as US Channel 95/Japanese Channel 1 carries analog video at 91.25 MHz and FM audio at 95.75 MHz. In my area, both the audio carriers for Japanese Channels 1 and 2 are already being used by radio stations, so trying to broadcast Famicom gameplay from it's RF output throughout your house's in-wall wiring is basically illegal.

The AV jack might have a lot of corrosion/oxidization in it. Solution could be to take the cotton off of one end of a q-tip/cotton bud, soak the end of the stick in rubbing alcohol, and insert it into the av port to scrub around a bit. Only works if your cotton buds have paper sticks though, not plastic.

don't know if you ever fixed it on your own but ive had similar struggles with a/v output for camcorders. the best thing to do is to ground is; get your 3.5mm to rca cable, figure out which poles on the 3.5mm end ( the metal contacts separated by plastic rings ) correspond to which color/ground on the other end with a multimeter, write it down. then you can find out which pole the ground pin is on when you plug it in to the tv. then, you can try and make your own cable or find one online with pinout listed, with the ground pole on the same place. the other cables can all be swapped around so they dont matter as much. as for how many poles there are, the number of sections on the 3.5mm, it might be 3 or 4. that tv is clearly mono only, but who knows, maybe seiko just used a stereo + video jack instead. if only we had some documentation. just needed to let you know otherwise i wouldnt be able to sleep tonight lol.

it would probably be a little work but it might be better to remove all the jacks you are not going to use and just have the av cables go directly into it rather than having the breakout cable. this would require a little probing to see exactly which solder pad is connected to which terminal in the current port. then a little more wiring between the pads and the new ports on the side. you may be able to remove the tuner because well it doesnt have a signal anymore this would probably help with battery life as well.
