Hey, you have a great idea there. If you could weld or otherwise attach a small spike on the underside of the wedge, so that it would stick into the stump or whatever else you're using as a base, it would keep it in place. Maybe something as simple as grinding the bottom edges into triangular jack'o'lantern teeth. I noticed that after you tried to split the large log that it became sort of embedded into the 8X8 that you were using and stayed put after that. Also, if you wanted to try splitting larger logs (like the one at around 2:30 in the video) into kindling, you could hold so the outer edge of it was on the wedge and just split off small slivers at a time, from the outside in.

Good idea in theory jesse but might be better just puttin axe on its back and mallet bits of wood on top of axe head , It may rip your back pack whereas the axe has a sheath . Greetings from Wales UK ,

I like that it stands on its own, whereas you'd have to hold the axe in a vice or somethinf

Pretty neat. Seems like a handy thing to have in the hunting back pack. Anytime you are splitting paper birch, take your knife and cut the bark the length of the log where you want it to split. Works every time, and the wood will pop apart much more easily. that bark acts like a strap holding the wood together.

Friggin genius. Now I have a solid use for scrap angle. Maybe experiment with thicker or taller stock and length.
