I've been rewatching your old content this weekend after wondering if you'd updated your channel recently, so It's great to see you are still alive and working on interesting hardware. This new project sounds like a great step up from the previous boards. I look forward to watching follow-up videos and playing with the emulator.

There will be some interesting follow-ups I hope. The Minimal 64 will come with a very fast Python-like interpreter that can *easily* run a TETRIS game. Stay tuned!

Oh I am SOOOO excited for this! What a fun kit this will be to build and tinker with. Can't wait to dig into the schematic and theory of operation and start dreaming of ways to make a simple sound-and-joystick interface!

That'll be great! Haven't thought about sound at all. But the Minimal 64 does have an expansion port. You can hook up any device to it and have it "memory-mapped" as I've shown in my earlier videos about the Minimal UART CPU. Cheers!

Hi Jim, it actually *is* good fun programming this toy natively. I might get rid of my Windows-PC now ;-) no just kidding... I must admit the Space Invaders clone was written with the cross-assembler and emulator. But the MINIMAL 64's workflow for me is *much* more user-friendly than on a C64. Cheers!

Did you consider selling kits for purchase that contains all the parts needed to build it? Your creation deserves more attention. I am a software engineer for over 2 decades but I am a total noob when it comes to hardware and embedded systems. Would be neat if there was a kit I could purchase that contains everything I need :)

This is a really cool project! Also, speaking of TTL computers, there is one more called "Gigatron" that the 8-bit guy also reviewed. But I like this "minimal" approach

Well some consider FLASH ICs as cheating since they weren't available in the 80s. But as I said its a "modern" home computer 🙂

Amazing! This projects has become so advanced, it may even be commercially viable... Have you considered "compressing" the simple logic chips into a CPLD? Or would it be 'cheating'? It's just an idea to keep the cost down...

I'm really looking forward to what you have done, I'm sure it will be very clever and I can steal some ideas off you ;). I've added an SSD to my TTL CPU which is a near clone of yours. I see you are still allergic to colour but that's ok, monochrome is minimal, maybe you can design a minimal colour CPU in the future.

Hi David, thanks for following my long and winded road again... well, color (colour of cause): The memory and efficiency cost is so great for *only* color to be gained. For a true bitmapped output as the Minimal 64 produces it still has not enough processing power to spare for color... and I am slowly running out of tricks...

@@PaulasTechStuff yep, there is always this next little idea... I've just started a side project of pushing my CPU from 8MHz to (in theory) 15MHz (still with 74HCxx logic). We'll see how that plays out 🙂

I think I have a circuit for DVI worked out, for a minimal couple of colour, low res, put out on a high res, high colour count link, so it looks like a height definition signal to the display….

Hi Tom, that sounds interesting, I really appreciate every effort to sort of build upon my design and make this system more capable. *However*, this is and will always be a *minimalistic* design. It is it's core justification. If my design had color output today and I saw a way of getting rid of 4 ICs as a trade-off for that color output I'd do it immediately :-)

Hi, I will show more of the Python-like language MIN in the future. Actually I started development of MIN with C syntax but refrained from it since the indented code blocks of Python offer some subtle but important advantages in the implementation. Until then, I recommend watching some of my earlier videos about MIN.

@@lawrencerubanka7087 You are completely mistaken. I'm talking about the subscript commas at the bottom. They're language specific to certain countries in Eastern Europe and in English they're placed at the top not the bottom. I like this channel so no I'm not kidding.
