Very Well done. We ( married couple 70s) have visited over 90 countries - and more to come - with a similar set up including using the Farpoint 40 and Osprey Daylite Plus. 8 kg in main and 3 kg in daypack. Since we want to have capability of not being noticeable in a 5 star location we confine ourselves to having black tops and pants and our walking shoes are all black. Easy to maintain clean and a classic look that goes anywhere. We do not look completely out of place anywhere. We are also big fans of merino wool and use that wherever possible. We also carry a. complete medical kit knowing it is inevitable to get sick i.e. stuff we are famikiar with in cold meds; ibuprofen; immodium; tums etc.

@BeforeWeExpire
10 ай бұрын
Cheers, Don! Yeah it seems they’ve gone pretty minimal on the organisation of the bag. I’ve found this to be it’s best and worst feature… only having the main compartment, laptop sleeve and tiny top zip pocket means there’s nowhere to conveniently stow small items you want to get to easily. However, this means the main compartment is really spacious and I can fit more stuff with my own packing cubes. Bit of a trade off but works for me since I always carry my waist pack across my chest for smaller items. Paddy Pallin in Perth is a great store and I’m there often! Safe travels

Good video! However, take into account that the Farpoint 40 is too big as a carry on in most, if not all, the European low cost airlines like Ryanair,Easyjet, etc. One of the problem s is that it has a rigid frame. Also notice that many airlines limit the weight of the pack and not only the size. Airlines are more strict in Europe than in the US, but ticket prices are much lower as well. Good look with the trip!

Beautiful! My only (totally not judgemental) thoughts are to get a wide mouth water bottle so you can clean it, and that you can downsize the number of clothing items in favour of wearing one outfit & storing a spare and then hitting the thrift shops when you need something new, also, a pair of minimalist sandals instead of flip flops to wear when your feet are aching at the end of the day but you want to go out to get food or stroll the town a bit (something with a back strap … waaaay more comfy, still compact/light). We use the Xero sandals. Have an amazing time! I backpacked Europe with my two little kids using a 40L pack (and they had little day packs). It made logistics so much easier not being weighed down by anything more.
@BeforeWeExpire
Жыл бұрын
Agreed! I’ve been on the hunt for a better wide mouth water bottle and also have found I could have brought 1 or 2 less tops. I’m still loving my flip flops but definitely can see the benefits of something with more support. That’s awesome that you were able to get by with a 40L and kids! Gives me ideas for the future :)

And no we didn’t wear socks and flip flops in public. 😊

I'm 66 years old and love travelling with my Osprey 40litre Fairview (the women's equivalent of your Farpoint). With the women's version the harness is narrower and shorter to fit a smaller stature, and is the most comfortable pack I've ever carried. Great list! Being from Europe and traveling here also for several months with not a lot in always struggling with how to bring warm winter boots (which jugging by the amount of your layers might be an issue for you as well). Looking forward to the after list. Also: try taking trains between bigger cities, e.g. Berlin, stop in Amsterdam, end in Paris. You will see a lot more from Europe by train!

Yeah hopefully my current boots will work but we might have to hire some in the really cold places. I agree trains have been an amazing way to see the European countrysides!

I'd be hiding that second gear bag if I was walking through those budget flights

13Kg fully loaded? What happens if you fly with an airline that has a 7-10Kg weight limit? Also, what about bringing grooming tools that are prohibited to carry-on? Like scissors and tweezers?

We mostly travelled with Ryanair who allows 10kg overhead bags and a personal item bag which is no weight limit. As for prohibited items, you’ll need a check on bag for them otherwise you can check the guidelines on things like scissors as you can still carry small ones

I can tell you that it's pretty good. < 15KG should be a max. I've been traveling for over 15 years with a mobile office in a bag of some kind - the last 10 years I've kept my pack between 8KG and 15KG depending on where I'm going. It's all about sacrifice. I will predict you don't need some many tee shirts / socks or pants. I'd go 3 / 3 / 2 respectively. Toiletries I'd buy between flights. 1 thermal top. And you see to have a lot of chargers. I expect you'll return from your 8 month trip with about 2 kilo less than you started.

Good to know I’m on the right page and I agree, it is all about sacrifice. I’ll have to do an updated packing list at the end of my trip

What about water bottle? I don't think it was mentioned in the video or I must have missed it.
