This is to the lady who made the comment about your closet not looking like a minimalist closet…I am a minimalist, and have been for most of my adult life (I’m 59 years of age), and I can tell you this from being around many other minimalists, that in minimalism, there is no “one size fits all.” To me minimalism is simply decluttering all of the extraneous stuff from your life until you only have the things that have a purpose in your life, and that you love and enjoy….and that looks very different for each individual. There’s no two people whose minimalist lifestyle is going to look exactly the same. 😊

RE: reading vs listening to a book. Love doing both. But if I’m listening, I’m up off my “bahooky” and getting something done. If I’m relaxing, (often when I’m sitting on the beach where I live) it’s the time for actually reading. Doesn’t have to be one or the other.

What a perfect explanation of what minimalism should be for most of us. It’s loving and using what we have, and not necessarily the “ big yawn “ of a wardrobe or house devoid of color and life. We live in a gloriously color filled world, and it’s all there to be appreciated.

I agree with you that some people (even me in the beginning of my minimalism journey) mistake minimalism as decluttering everything down to the basics and denying ourselves of the simple pleasures in life. For the sake of what??? An empty house? Anyway, minimalism, as with mostly everything, is a journey not a destination.

I try to clean 10 minutes a day. I don't do the weekly clean, I just work it into my daily 10 minutes. It really works! When I started I noticed some things I resented having to clean up and those were the things I declutterred first. (Toys with many small parts, decor that was a pain to clean, kitchen things that I didn''t really like using). If I don't feel good or am busy I don't clean at all and my house still looks fine, even for weeks. I keep the laundry and dishes up daily.

I like to think of my wardrobe as a "Curated Museum Exhibit". Someone else's exhibit might be a Museum of Modern Art with bright colors and synthetic matetials, another person's exhibit might be a Brutality Architecture exhibit with lots of textures but almost no color. My "exhibit" is more like something that would hang in a coffee shop... casual, colorful, creative, comfy AND cohesive. Everyone's style is a little different and the exhibit themes can change however we like.

I so sympathise with the lady and her sewing room ( I wish I had one).. I sew and craft in my bedroom and have all the usual trappings of a sewist and crafter... ..... A couple of years ago I bought 30Ltr plastic boxes ( see through) and thread boxes (clear) sorted and folded all my fabric into the boxes in colour order, ( they are now under the bed out of direct light. did the same with the threads , knitting wool, etc etc... Machines are in proper bags ... Tools are in smaller boxes ... I actually freed up so much space just by ironing and folding the fabric and now the room is so much more restful ( albeit still a workplace). I find that when you are overwhelmed, take the first thing you come to and just deal with it... it always leads on to something else....
