The Department of Home Affairs has refuted media reports that its Minister, Dr Aaron Motsoaledi, has given orders or the green light for the SAPS to conduct spot checks to ascertain the status of foreign nationals.
This is after media reports, last week, surfaced suggesting that Motsoaledi had given instructions to law enforcement agencies to stop people and ask for their identification.
Dr Motsoaledi speaks to SABC News about this and his presentation to parliament's portfolio committee on Home Affairs regarding the backlog in appeals for asylum seekers and refugees in the country.
