Thank you so much! You’re video, and instructions were on point. I just installed my transducer today. I honestly thought it would be an all weekend project. But, you clearly explained everything so well, I was able to do everything, including connecting my graph, in less than three hours. Last thing is.... test it out, and catch some fish! Thanks again! 🙏🙏🙏

Great video and great ideas. I just finished installing my new Helix 7 transducer on this exact same trolling motor step by step by your video. Im anxious to get out on the water this weekend and try it out. I'll post feedback once I get to try it out. Thanks for the video!

Great video! Only thing I did different is I hid all the excess ducer cable in the head of the trolling motor sense I take my motor on and off frequently. A lot less cable to deal with.

Great video (Powerdrive V2 Transducer Install) but I have one question as to the orientation of the transducer. It appears to be mounted backwards with the nose of the transducer towards the prop instead of the bullet end (front). Wouldn't this reverse the side imaging? Not trying to be critical. It just seems to be reversed to me.

Robert Knisley it is mounted backwards I noticed that after I uploaded the video. now with the g2 or g2n models you can reverse the Side Imaging so that it will display correctly. if you are running a gen 1 unit you will need the transducer oriented correctly. I didn't catch it until the first time I was out on the water I was trying to figure out why the Rocky Point I was fishing was showing on the wrong side of the boat. Lol.

Great job! I found your video after finding and watching the other solution using the spring. Would greatly appreciate it if you'd provide a 'grocery' list of the items purchased/used in the solution and where you found them. Thanks again for the really fine video!

Thanks for the response. Next time I'm at the Home Depot (Which incidentally is several times per week) I'll make a note of the actual product names and UPC codes. I'll update the video description with the information and leave you a reply here to let you know the update has been published.

Excellent summary and solution to the problems involved in protecting the cable. One question? How do you secure the cable to the bottom of the spring? I see that the cable goes through the grommet, is it secured somehow at that point so it can't slide up and down?
@TheWeekendAngler
3 жыл бұрын
Thank you. The grommet holds the cable pretty well. Friction holds it in place. If you are concerned about it moving, however, you could put a small zip tie behind the grommet.

Hello Weekend Angler, Thank you for providing this video! Can you please provide the shopping list for home depot. I noticed someone had asked, but looks like you have not gotten around to it. Thank you,

Thanks I bought all the items. Doesn’t he wire just slip through the grommet?
@TheWeekendAngler

Yes, you can get the transducer cable through the grommet. Just go slowly and it will go through.

I think your transducer is on backwards, your side scan will be wrong...Left will be right, and right will be left.

It was/is The good thing about the Generation 2 Humminbird Helix units is you can reverse the sides and get it back around correctly. I caught that the first time I went to the lake to try it out.

Do you get any interference with the wire running through the middle of the main curly wire when the motor is running ?Thanks Danny

Dan Timek I can tell when the motor is running and when it isn't by the appearance of the screen, but the interference is minimal.

Pull the head and shaft right out of mount. Silicone the wire in the groove on shaft. Have done a million of them

The powerdrive doesn't have a groove in the shaft. The terrova, on the other hand, does.

Now that you've used this system for a couple of years is it holding up? Any updates you would recommend?
@TheWeekendAngler
3 жыл бұрын
It's holding up well and has even survived a couple of bad hits. The only thing I had to change is the orientation of the transducer. I mistakenly installed it backwards in this video. This is not an issue on the g2 and newer units. As you can reverse the side imaging orientation. It can confuse you on the generation 1 units, though. Frankly, with minn Kota and Humminbird being under the same parent company, I'm surprised it has taken as long as it has to see a good factory side imaging solution on the trolling motors.

So the cable doesnt hang up at all when the motor spins?
@TheWeekendAngler

The cable doesn't get hung up as the motor spins. You do have to be careful not to spin the motor completely around, however, as you can still cause damage to it.

How does side imaging work with the trolling motor spinning all the time?
@TheWeekendAngler
5 жыл бұрын
When you start turning the trolling motor from side to side it will distort Your Side Imaging. But, when you are trolling any relatively straight line, you get a perfect picture. There's a trade-off to everything. I prefer to have Side Imaging up front and deal with a distorted picture every now and then as opposed to only having My Side Imaging at the rear of the boat

This may show my ignorance on fish finders, but will a side imaging transducer work on a trolling motor that is twisting back and forth?
@TheWeekendAngler
6 жыл бұрын
Don't feel bad. I asked the same questions of humminbird prior to installing a side imaging sonar at the bow of my boat. It will work, but understand that every time you turn your trolling motor it's going to change the direction the sonar is scanning. If you're making slight left/right adjustments you won't notice a lot of distortion. If you turn 90 degrees or so you you'll really notice it. I tend to troll in a straight line or at least follow the contour of the shoreline I'm fishing so for the most part my screen shows something I can understand. If I'm not needing side imaging, I'll switch to a 2d sonar / down imaging display and just look straight down. That is useful when fishing deeper water and you're trying to find a stump or other feature to drop a marker buoy on it.
