Hello Joe, Just a word about warming up your truck. Modern engines warm up best during use. Just sitting there it takes it longer to reach a good operational temperature! That doesn't mean you get in and tear off you have to go easy. But usually with the load of the truck alone she'll warm up faster moving then sitting still. Though of course you inside will be cold to heat comes. Just a thought.

I need to let loose more on the seasoning, yummy. Home cooking needs to be very satisfying. If I built a compound, would probably go with fewer but larger insulated buildings and have room for car, truck, and tractor. Wonder what the indoor humidity is when 30 below? Also, the diesel itself has anti gel I imagine. Here in baton rouge, the teens are a crisis.

Stupid question, but why do you plug your truck in? Is it because the battery dies in such extreme temperatures? I've only seen -25 Celsius once in 49 years, usually -7 to -10 degrees is the lowest we ever see in S Wales, and I've never seen more than about 6 inch of snow.
@NorthernSeclusion
5 жыл бұрын
Because it is a diesel I plug it in, it has nothing to do with the battery at all. I copied and am not pasting exactly what "plugging in a diesel" does: Diesel engines have a harder time starting in the cold than gasoline engines, because Diesel fuel has a different composition. ... The cord that you may notice from Diesel vehicles is called a block heater. The block heater keeps the combustion chamber and glow plugs at a temperature that is conducive to igniting the fuel. It will start quite good down to about 0 and then she starts complaining, If it is going to get below 0 I plug it in.

Hi joe i live in florida and of course we don't have that problem with the snow. What do you mean when you say you have the truck plugged up? Please excuse my ignorance😊
@NorthernSeclusion
5 жыл бұрын
Plugged "in".... You plug it in and there is an engine heater (for lack of getting into great detail) that heats the things that need to be heated so it will start in very cold temperatures. With a diesel truck it is fairly critical that you have it plugged in (to electricity) so it heats it up (the engine) when it gets this cold. I do not much worry about it down to about 0 degrees. Below that I do. Very good question Barbara. Thank You.

Diesel fuel up here is pre treated for 40 below zero this time of the year right out of the pump, so I add nothing. Right now we have no room in the taller front garage to put my truck in there. Good point about the coolant Joe. Most people don’t really think (or have the need to) about the freezing point of their coolant.
