@@sarahschultz4866 As someone who is familiar with alcoholism disorder through formerly close contacts - you know that... alcoholics lie to themselves and everyone around them. I didn't buy the "tonic" story for a SECOND. It was actually quite clever. The house was unkempt, which is consistent with alcoholism. Celia's demeanor from the outset was 'tipsy'. Jessica Chastain actually NAILED the covert alcoholic persona of this character through body language and speech, with the help of a stellar screenplay. And then at the big party, Celia stopped giving a damn about the remainder of her secret and went all out. This is textbook to me. Didn't buy the tonic thing for a second

It was a different era. People dated different people back then (without sleeping with them). People would double-date for companionship/dance partner for an evening without having an interest in the other person, just so your girl or guy pal could go on a date with someone they fancied. Girls would drag one of their friends along, and fellas would do the same. However, sometimes you'd meet "the one" and everyone else fell by the wayside. I think this is likely to be what happened when Hilly's friend went out with Johnny. Johnny met Celia, and she was his "one." Hilly was a nasty, bitter character. She had the world as her oyster and still wasn't all that happy. I loved the pie scene in this film with Octavia Spencer, Bryce Dallas Howard and Sissy Spacek!

@@pamelalansbury94 no. It looks like fried chicken, that’s why most people didn’t know it was fake. There’s no need to throw shots, this ain’t the gun range.

Easily my two favorite characters from this movie ❤ Minnie was funny, and just wanted a smidge of respect from SOMEONE and have someone she knew that cared. And Celia just wanted a friend. And the scene where Minnie breaks down the bathroom door breaks my heart every time 🥺 they needed each other more than they knew. I know it’s a movie, but I’m glad their characters found each other.

That wasn’t chicken. They shaped minced cauliflower, breaded it and fried it. Jessica Chastain is vegan! Yeah!!!
