For those that are wondering this will run you ~$160 USD for all parts plus or minus shipping costs. A bit steep for a handheld but understandable since it's a small hobby project and it's hard to scale with cost. It's brilliant nonetheless. I may get it. Maybe...

Hanz Azazel I recommend you look up “Game Pi 2”. It’s another raspberry pi project however it uses a 3b. It sadly doesn’t have a claim shell design tho.

True but you control the software going in and know the hardware. You can get a cheap Chinese made emulator handheld but those things are held together with Elmer’s glue and luck most of the time.

@@pharaohavalon8566 according to my math if you get the battery also, it's 110 for helder stuff with shipping, and 50 for wermys stuff including the buttons if you choose. So as already said, it's indeed around $160 in the USA. Don't know shipping costs for international though.

soulja anything are basically heavily markup of cheap chinese junk thats on aliexpress which does not perform remotely well with even the most retro console emulation where a 5pounds pi zero can even emulate PS1 games by just dumping retropi in it.

The older versions of this looked like a nightmare to put together just because of how small it is. This on the other hand, has been made waaaay more simple compared to the previous versions. Great work as always.

$100 - pcb $43 - printed parts $13 - buttons $15 - battery, I'm guessing $5 for shipping $15 - Pi =186 + SD card and Altoids tin I am so excited for everything to arrive. Also for the build video. I want to cut a hole for the HDMI and use USB controllers so I can play on the big screen when I'm at home. It is some money, but this thing is so unique I think it's worth it. You simply can't have one unless you buy the parts and put it together. Coolest thing ever!!

About a year or two ago I came up with an idea to fit a raspberry pie into an altoids tin with some built in controls to play emulated games thinking it was a completely original idea. When I finally found out about this I was excited to see something I thought I came up with actually in the real world, and although I may not have came up with the idea, it’s sweet to see this!

Exciting stuff you guys! My only two complaints are the price and I personally am not much of a fan of those soft rubber buttons. Apart from that, lots of cool improvements, especially for the assembly! Integrating all of those parts on a single board seems like an obvious choice, and it looks like you guys did it well. It'll make the project accessible for more people. It's too bad it costs a lot. I'll have to stick with my v2.5 for now :)

mushy buttons? nope nope nope nope! those on their own they are not responsive, they need to be solid on the user end like any respectable controller. Also on the pcb cut the interior half of the contact circles for the dpad, this way it becomes way way way more precise. I may sound super critic but I am because this is a very good project and I like it!

I've had the good fortune to try those new buttons and they are not mushy at all; They are like a rigid silicone, they are fantastic to use. I also do some tinkering with boards and the method used for the PCB contacts is probably the best way you can make it responsive, each finger interlocks from the opposite side meaning you'll get a connection no matter where you put the button.

It says on the website that preorders end January 20, I'm not sure when the parts will be sold out, I'm pretty sure that depends on how many people will buy it and how fast they buy it.

@@jeremymercado8599 I started a number of 1000 to be easier for me to keep track but if it does sell out before then I can always add more to get a final tally. If you buy it before the deadline then you will get a kit.

I had to make a Frankensteins Game Boy Zero because all custom parts are expensive and because I broke the screen and hopefully not the button board I had to freeze the project. But I might try to make a minty pi out of a 3d printed shell and the parts of my game boy zero project.

This looks like such a fun project to do. I wonder if even someone like me can make something like this? I've modded my systems to play different games such as my NES Classic, PSP, Wii, WIi U, and PSVita but modding something and making a system are two different things. It's different than just dropping files into an SD card. It seems kind of fun even though I don't need something like this at all. It's so cute though! haha. I love seeing people make stuff like this!

This is gonna cost me so much money. I have no real experience soldering, so I bought soldering equipment, basic starter accessories, etc. Then I preordered the mintypi3 and some practice boards cause I wanna get good. I also bought a 3d printer cause I've wanted to get into the hobby for a while...AGHH Even if I break the mintypi making it, it'll be worth it though, seems cooler to me to do a little work making something myself VS some of the gameboy-clone kits that all you do is just assemble. Any knowledge/skills gained would just be a plus, too.

Damn i was excited that v3 is finally on pre-order. Then I looked at the prices. $110 for Helder parts and battery. $50 for 3d parts and buttons. Plus $20 for the Pi. No thanks, that's too much. Great design and good job, but too freaking expensive.
