Earth rammed tires would work far better than cinder block and sand bags. They also work great for making shooting windows if you space the tires right. Kinda like midevil castle windows. Small opening but angled so you have a good range of shot options. Tires won't degrade over time like sand bags will.
@bashkillszombies

Tires aren't as easily obtained, I have no idea where you'd be able to source hundreds to thousands of old tires from in a rural area.
@bigwooly8014

@bashpr0mpt you building a city? An excellent shooting/observation position can be made with less than 25 tires. Go to any non chain tire shop, auto or motorcycle, and ask about tires. You'll get more than you can handle. Edit: I live in a rural area, this is what worked for me.

Ev l Thorny bushes as barbed wire tells them they are entering a trap. With thorny bushes you can have the only clear path right into the fire line without them noticing.
@SafetyAlwaysLast
14 күн бұрын
Yeah but that would give away the fighting position even more, a half decent enemy would easily detect funneling and notice his position. Thorns would be a better option however you can't easily transport thorns to a position, It would probably do best to once the main fighting position is established go into the flanks and dig crawfish holes that are difficult to traverse through, if you do this in a thicket it will make the enemy force turn and move along the thicket until they find another crossing. If you have your position in parallel to this it could act as a funnel.

*Ingress and digress are the MOST IMPORTANT factors to consider.* Being able to sustain fire is important, BUT any fighting position in a WROL situation would quickly be silenced by a concerted enemy. Getting into a position without getting shot is critical (including supply), and even more important is being able to withdraw from a position while under fire. The trench is critically important.

Dill Rogerz I dont know his legacy at all, but service doesnt equate to functional knowledge in all things combat. There are more support system personal than combatants in a given service, lots of folks in the rear packing gear. Theres a lot of holes here, especially for a fixed position. As is, or douobled up current, asinle shooter with battle rifle and a flanking position will ghost his ass within 5 rounds. If theres a big bore around maybe 2, concussion from first probly put im out the fight by itself...

Going to go on a little bit of a critique spree- Firstly, it's right on the fenceline- and fencelines are a natural conduit for man and beast. Either could walk right oover/into the position. Straight lines draw the eye, and even camoflaged, the bunker would be easy to spot as an anomaly, and also easy for a target descriptor from an enemy assaulting it. A nice fire lane, but also highly visible. You obviously have your reasons to site it there, but I would have pulled it back off the fenceline maybe 6 to 8 feet- just inside the scrubline. Bit of strategic pruning of low branches and you would still have access to the firelane, but slightly harder to see from elsewhere. Plus, maintaining good access to the fence for patrols/repair. Thanks for the vid. Top stuff. :)

Impressive! I had to laugh about your gym membership comment. I'm so glad you shared because this is my first time seeing a video like this. I have so much to do. Just got a barn built on my land that I don't live on yet. This should be added to the list. Salvage is good because barns are expensive! You've used the term combat multiplier often and it replays through my mind quite a bit, it helps a person view their gear differently and their survival capabilities. Thank you so much!

Great job... perhaps a dig with waterproof storage (5 gal. bucket size) for supplies off-set to the side within your position underneath.... Totally agree about that crawl trench you mention. a few suggestions if you havent already thought of it would be that those bricks will only take 15-30 shots from an average rifle. putting sand bags in front will greatly increase its protective qualities. also sand bags strait over the top as well since there is a rise behind that fence. and one last thing would be a dugout area to catch water. also would be able to put your feet in to give you a better comfortable area to wait out the enemy thats hiding.

So, I'm the first to admit I know just enough to get myself killed in a SHTF situation. I'm just wondering, have you walked out 50-100 yards from it and then fired a few rounds at it? 9m .45, 7.62 ? just to see will it take a round without going through? Could you empty a mag at it and have it absorb the rounds? 2 mags? I'm not criticizing, I'm really not.I'm just saying if you have spent 30-40 hours on it already and plan on spending 10-20 more, you should be willing to put your kids in there ,no problem. Otherwise you might as well build a wicker tank for protection.

As a 12 year old I dug a hole and made an underground room by filling old cement sacks with sand and stapling them closed. I then built a short entry tunnel, used some pieces of wood as a roof (sealed cracks with plastic bags willed with sand) and covered it all up with soil. Within a year weeds had grown all around it and it was unnoticeable (it nearly created an accident when a tractor went close to it). Growing up outside the city where the internet is bad has it's bennefits.

During WW1, the men in the Trenches built their own Periscopes, besides the ones provided. The old Boy Scout articles gave instructions for Periscope construction. The periscope allows people to see 'around' any obstacle without exposing themselves. ... Obviously, the Periscope on submarines is the most noted military usage of periscopes. ... But, the SouthernPrepper1 family could enjoy hours and hours of close-up bird watching with a periscope at the concealed hole in the ground.

@Instantd

The fence line is covered in 2 directions, and that is nice, however how do you prevent from being flanked? People inside the pit have no visibility on what's coming from the side. Or would this be more of a monitoring / guard position that you would fall back from early on? Looks cool, curious to see how it'll look when it's finished.

Southern Prepper1 I am sure you probably already thought of this but just in case, 1) Camo tape your Comms Antenna. Have a backup antenna as well that is up a tree with the cable buried that can be used if the main is taken out. 2) weapons/ammo cache that is concealed (in a manner of your choosing) some distance from the defensive position for backup. 3) Mark off areas on a Grid Map where Opposition will be likely to approach and designate them with a code that is known to Base so that Intel on opposition forces location can be accurately communicated to Main Base so that Friendlies can plan accordingly to neutralize the threat. 4) Consider methods of Illumination of an area REMOTELY that will illuminate an enemy position for your team to suppress and or neutralize. I have never been in the armed forces. Just some guesses at what might be of use to you. Love your vids and all the work you do. Thank you very much for your selflessness. God Bless you and yours.

Not sure if you had any other vets weigh in yet or not, but I would not use concrete blocks in front of your sandbags unless you're plan on burying them. As a top layer they could provide and easy way for incoming rounds to ricochet up and into your firing position if the rounds skim across the top surface. The best thing to thicken your walls would be sand bags as they will absorb the incoming rounds. and at a minimum slow them down greatly

Most people out to get food wont have grenades or guns and an in your face flash bang or a remote controlled flash bang will be enough for them to skip your place and look for some where easier. If you are trying to defend a residential block by your self its not going to happen to many corners to watch by ones self. The viet Cong have proved you don't need artillery or weapons to slow people down, a pit with sharp sticks is sufficient. How ever you have a duty of care for trespasses on your property so its not something you can pre setup until after the SHTF else you risk legal and court and jail for man traps. But there is nothing stopping you putting in the pit. you can drop in a welded steal structure if you had access along your fence. That's the only thing i can fault you with with the position of your bunker you cut off your rtv access along the fence for fast deployment of obstacles. or fast removal of trees that collapse a bit of fence. or getting building supplies there quicker.

Some good ideas, however, I'd question the use of cinder blocks along outer walls. High powered rounds can punch right through such materials, turning them into deadly shrapnel. You might consider completely covering them with two or more layers of sand bags or an earth berm to absorb any incoming rounds. I like your idea of using a sheet metal overhead cover, and I'd also layer it completely with sand bags. You could place foam plumbing pipe insulation tubes along the edges of the metal to protect yourself from the sharp edges.

Smoke or teargas - you'd just grab it and throw it back out. (I think those are usually can-shaped and not round, so they wouldn't necessarily roll into a sump) But, you're right... probably a really long shot of someone having a frag, unless they're cartel or something.
@XRinger
9 жыл бұрын
Those cans might be very hot, so grab carefully. I've seen aluminum smoke nade cans that got really hot. If you are in remote areas, it might be likely to get a stick of dynamite tossed at you. If that happened, a quick grab and toss might be the way to go. If you are under fire, someone might toss in a fake (road flare with burning fuse), just to get you to bail into the open.. The best thing to do is nail the BG when he is trying to make the toss. :)
@jared4086
9 жыл бұрын
You put a slight slope in your fighting hole angled down towards your grenade sump, so you can just kick anything that gets thrown in down there. They are also useful for water drainage, which if it had water in it and you kicked a smoke or cs grenade. The water would help mitigate the effects of the grenade. Flash bangs on the other hand, you are just kinda screwed because the delay is so short on them.

Decent cover, zero concealment. I could spot that from 1/4 mile away. It's more of a guard shack than a fighting position. I know you said that you'd camo it, but from what I could see in vid, a big hump like that is going to stick out like a sore thumb. And you're gonna have to either put a good layer of dirt or something on the roof. Yep, you'll be dry in pouring rain, but rain on a tin roof will be VERY out of place out in the woods. I'm not ragging on you're work man, it's a great start, and I'm just throwing out my two cents worth. Like you said, a fighting position, especially a permanent one, is never "finished".
