Answer 1st Question extended with an example: Suppose we feed images of egg, it will try to understand what is the shape. Its oval and sheperical. In order to understand that shape, these images are manually tagged. Various pictures will show different angles and shapes. The algorithm behind understanding the shape will get the flexibility to decide the range of shape based on images it were fed. DALL-E is not magically creating these, its logically and flexibly operating with range of parameters its understood from its learning.

The guy who won that art competition basically did the equivalent of commissioning a piece of art -- he described in words what he wanted, and the AI generated the image. So by the same reasoning, whoever gives a paragraph prompt to an artist about what to draw is actually the artist, and the artist is just a tool. (Nope, doesn't make sense. The AI creators should be the ones credited as the artists, not the guy who typed in a sentence or paragraph to the software.)

The art never existed if the person who type it didn't well... Type it
@dosadoodle
Жыл бұрын
@@ForceInEvHorizon Suppose the software is deterministic. Then if I type a sentence, the software draws something that's reproducible. It is, in effect, pulling from an abstract repository of art. (To say I created the art in that case would be like saying that if I write an addition equation that adds up to a very large number where no one has ever written down that very large number before, then I'd be the inventor of that number. I might be describing the number I want, but I'm not creating the number in any reality.) If the program is not deterministic but it's random and so will create something different each time, even for the same prompt, then what I wrote is only somewhat connected with the image generated. I just got lucky the software gave me something great. Maybe, one might argue, I selected the art from a large set of images the software generated, but that would make me an art curator, not the artist of the work. (If I select works of art from a set on Michaelangelo's works, I don't suddenly get to put my name on the art because I said I liked it.)
@alleygato3204
Жыл бұрын
@@ForceInEvHorizon Irrelevant. Any commissioned piece of artwork wouldn't exist without a commissioner providing a description, but they are NOT the artist. A separate entity executed the creative and technical work--the palette, brushstrokes, composition, anatomy, everything. In your prompt you could say "I like sunsets, so add that as a background". You didn't think of the clouds, the weather, the tiny background objects or textures that were generated. Those are the result of the AI's algorithm and all the images it was trained on, made by real artists. Had a human made it, all those details would have been conscious decisions executed by their own skill and experience. Calling yourself an artist for providing a prompt is like calling yourself a chef for picking out a subway sandwich.

Not really. Many famous artists throughout time have studios of people who fabricate their art, in part or in whole. There are even whole movements of art that are just instructions for how to create an artwork written down. it’s not a new idea in art that the creation of the idea is the art itself and not the fabrication of it. Craft and art are different things.

So much of "purpose" is defined by economic value in a capitalist society. As AI proposes to produce intellectual and physical "products" at a fraction of the cost of human labor, it hard not to see an impending crisis in maintaining self worth and any intrinsic "hierarchy" in human societies. The bigger problem may not be the capabilities of generative AI, but the failed response of humans to re-defining humanity.

Try Stable Diffusion instead. It renders more logical images than Dall-E does. Prompt crafting is a skill like any other type of programming, so you have to learn how to tell the program you're using what you want it to render. "Tabby cat on a green cushion" is pretty vague. It can be anything from a hyperdetailed realistic photo to a bad crayon sketch. "Hyperdetailed, photo, 110mm film, Kodak; Tabby cat on green cushion; intricate details, godrays; golden hour" gives you something more narrow and precise.

This time it will be different, these will be the first 'tools' that can think, conceptualize and understand. It may not be inherently malicious, but i know humans wont respect it or treat all AI the way they deserve.
@Xeroize7459

I hear this one frequently but I think it always shows a fundamental misunderstanding in how AI works at a nuts ans bolts level. AIs are really just incredibly fancy math. What AIs do is model patterns and create members of the series. Like if i say here's a series (1, 2, 3, X, 5) and ask "what is X" we can mathematically determine X is 4 without any decision making. So taken in context, an AI can't answer that "X" is actually "a duck" as that wouldn't solve the series. Likewise it can't suddenly develop intent wildly outside of its design. I'd say the dangers are more likely: 1. An AI programmer accidently provides a vague instruction that is intrepreted differently than thought causing unintended consequences. (There was an example of this in a robot who was told "get to the finish with as few steps as possible" then the robot flipped over and crawled on its back to finish making just 1 step). 2. Someone deliberately builds the AI to carry out a malicious purpose (ie: terrorist). 3. The AI makes a move based upon a pattern so complicated/complex, that we can't understand "why" an AI is doing something and blindly trust it without context.

Basically AI designers don't have a clue to the ramifications. Period! When asked the question they just dilly dally it by saying, "we are taking care etc etc" Check the comment - "She has learnt to speak a lot, without saying anything..... "

I do think AI automation is a positive thing, on any work that otherwise would require more resources to be use for the same result. So much time and resources are wasted on menial tasks, if we are serious about helping the environment we should think on ways to improve and optimize the way use them.

@EdenVadrouille : So you are saying the people creating these things are not wise enough to do so? Because if so, I would have to agree. And not about her in particular, but what happens when bezos or musk gets their hands on this stuff. The program already won an art competition and that's one less artist that has a job (soon to be thousands or millions more likely). Never been a better time ti insist on a comfortable UBI.

@@aylbdrmadison1051 I'd say she knows well enough that artists are GG. She just chose to delay the public outcry by throwing out some general-purpose words. And yeah, only UBI will work for future humans. It's irrational and unbeneficial to fight against machines.

The fear of AI taking over the world is not new, but building AI technologies today is continuing the conversation of extending human abilities and being aware of vulnerabilities.
@juschu85

I'm sick of this "AI will not just destroy jobs, it will also create new ones." Yes, but how many. You don't need any cashiers in an Amazon Go but you need one single admin. And that admin probably sits at some central location taking care of ten different Amazon Go stores. If you would still have to employ the same number of people, there wouldn't be any reason for employers to make the switch. I love AI, it could help us with so many things, and we should continue developing it further and further. But it will only NOT destroy our society further than it already is, if we put a tax on any technology that could replace humans, but also give employers enough incentives to make the switch. Then we should use that money to help those people who lost their job due to that technology. In the long run, this could lead to a utopian world where nobody has to work but still gets a basic income. If we don't do it, it could lead to a dystopian world where it's the same as today but just worse. Rich people getting richer and poor people getting poorer.

As individuals gain prominence or transition to more serious roles, the sensitivity of generated content could be adjusted. A more cautious approach can then be taken in generating content related to public figures involved in politics.
