We bring to your attention on the official channel of the Odesa Film Studio (@OdesaFilmStudio) a film showing the world of the patriarchal, “Gogolian” tradition, a cinematic interpretation of the literary works “Old World Landowners”, “The Story of How Ivan Ivanovich Quarreled with Ivan Nikiforovich” and “Ivan Fedorovich” Auntie” - a two-part feature film "Mirgorod and its inhabitants."
Mini-series directed by Mikhail Ilyenko, filmed in 1983 at the Kyiv Feature Film Studio named after Alexander Dovzhenko. The picture shows not the good-natured, idyllic life-being of the conventional “Mirgorod”, but the world of the imperial province, where the policeman acts as a local “princeling”, and the residents are so mired in the daily life of travel that any trifle unsettles them and affects their future lives in the most fatal way. way. It is not for nothing that the puddle at the entrance to the city becomes the dominant landscape in the picture.
The main characters of the film are city residents who face different life situations and experience it quietly with a smile on their lips and good humor. With the appearance of the adventurer and rogue Holopuz in Mirgorod, everything turns upside down and the city loses peace.
In one interview, the director recalled: “The script was written when Brezhnev was in office, the film was shot when his successors were there, and we delivered it already during Gorbachev’s time. And everything that happened in the film was repeated in parallel editing in life, in politics. When we handed over the film to the authorities, it ended in catastrophic silence, we understood that retribution was inevitable”...
However, this mystical and satirical comedy absorbed the best Gogolian traditions and presented the audience with vivid and non-trivial plots, while watching which many can draw parallels with realities of life.
