Hi Jeff, Great lesson as always!! The evenness of the bass drums is just as you said “Is key!” To me drumming is just like being an athlete in that you are constantly training all of your muscles while being musical, memorizing, or transcribing grooves, beats, fills, rudiments, etc. Once I get the muscle memory down I apply it to the kit very slowly, gradually building up speed as I go along. I learned a lot. Thanks again Jeff!

Exactly. The drum set is the most physical instrument which can make it the most rewarding. Thank you!

Jeff's Mirrored Groove Book is the bomb! Everyone checking out these videos needs to jump on that book. It starts off easy giving some quick progress and really sets the pace for a natural development as the harder stuff comes along. One of the best things about the book is how it uses broken (non-continuous) rhythms to develop a larger vocabulary of ideas. Not only do these broken rhythms sound cool, but they do wonders for body balance and fine tune the way each foot works the pedal.

Hi Jeff! I love these exercises! In the begining I had some isues with those 32nd notes. In faster tempos they sounded not so clearly articulated as they should. What really helped me to work this out (and it still does) is playing paradiddles with my feet, followed by simple beat with hands. No need to do so superfast, but be focused on the clarity. Then I have better sound control over the doubles I use while playing 32nd ruffs. Awesome work! Thank you! Keep it going!

David! You're absolutely right. Normally, I don't subscribe to the "just practice rudiments with your feet" approach to developing double bass. However, using a rudiment that helps facilitate a specific rhythmic pattern is a fantastic way-- especially with these 32nd note ruff grooves. As you know, they are merely paradiddles with a 32nd note in the middle of the diddle. Very cool! Thanks for mentioning that!!!

Jeff Bowders - making that Tomas Haake exercise in torture look like a walk in the double-pedal park. 😀
