You don't need to "play it any way you can" to use a different controller. Raphnet makes a gamecube to n64 controller adapter and even a SNES to n64 controller adapter, which, looking at the controls, is actually usable for this game. I have a cheap $10 USB N64 controller, works great for emulators. As for people hating on the N64 controller I always ask a simple question and get the same response 9/10 times: how are you holding it? They almost always say they held the left grip by the D Pad and tried to reach their thumb over to the analog stick. HOW DID YOU NOT KNOW TO GRAB THE CENTER GRIP!? It baffles me every single time... at least this game used the D Pad so it was not an issue.
@SNESdrunk

My issue is not with the center grip. I mean come on, it should be obvious to any idiot to hold it that way. My issue is with the flimsy-beyond-flimsy joystick, and the C-buttons that kinda-sorta not-really serve as a 2nd joystick. Also the sheer size of the N64 controller has always been extremely off-putting to me.

The N64 controller was definitely a interesting idea very unique but I can't think of Goldeneye 64 without it...

As always, you make a great case for obscure action-platformers with creative mechanics. I've been sitting on this game for ages despite being a huge Treasure nut-maybe it's time to finally give it a proper go. Knowing it gets better later is definitely great info.

I love these videos but the super polite ending always gets me. If I had one bit of feedback it would be to integrate the sign off with a summary or conclusion about the game. Great work either way though :)

Mischief Makers is so damn good and the three Beastector bosses blew my goddamn mind with their animations during their fights. And then you fight The Beastector at the very end where they combine like a goddamn Megazord and it's an awesome fight. The story is straight shenanigans though. The ending being literally fed by gold gems and simply stopping once you run out is a neat idea, and it even fakes you out multiple times so you have to get EVERY gold gem to get the actual proper ending. game is amazing though. shake shake!

I really enjoyed the hell out of this game. It was one I'd never heard of, but grandma got it for my brother. Took awhile to get used to it, but it was fun. Going for the gold I mentioned in another comment was a good challenge. Get no hit on bosses or get through that maze were the hardest ones. Really obscure gem in my opinion

Did you play use the d-pad or the thumbsticks on the 360 controller? The 360 d-pad is pretty bad.

I really enjoyed this game. The grab and shake game was really well done. I especially loved the special effects, especially when some of the bosses machines "transform" into the next battle phase, similar to a Transformer. Getting all the gold gems was a challenge too, especially the ones where you had to beat certain bosses without getting hit once to win the gem. But what was even harder was trying to get an S rank in every stage, where you have to beat stages extremely fast, which is perfect for speed runners. My main issue with the game was, most of the levels were a bit too short for me. But there's plenty of them. This game is a great hidden gem and was probably over looked because it was 2D, even though it did a lot that wasn't possible on 16 bit systems at the time.

This game is an absolute gem that I rented only once when I was a kid and didn't quite grasp how good it was, but wish I had more time to play it now as an adult.

Man I loved playing this when it came out I think it was 1999. Probably the best platformer I played on n64 but there was few platformers to begin with which was disappointing. But iirc it was quiet short and easy. But goddamn watching this has really brought back the memories man thanks for this video.

I feel like this is actually a hidden gem. Okay, lots of people know about this game and everbody knows its quite good. But not enough people appreciate it enough for all the gameplay elements imo. I remember it getting not higher than 7/10 ratings back in the day
