The wait was finally over, the training, dress rehearsals, workouts and choreographs finally paid dividends as a 20-year-old student of Makerere University Business School pursuing a Bachelors Degree in International Business, Nabulya Sydney Kavuma walked back home with the crown. The crowning night was held at Serena Hotel on the 23rd of September 2022 with the theme “Re-thinking Tourism” in the presence of members of parliament, different beauty pageant representatives, celebrities and an approaching audience, the Guest of Honor was Hon. Esther Anyakun who is the State Minster for Disaster Preparedness and Refugees and the Chief Guest was Hon. Martin Mugarura who is the state minister of Tourism in Uganda.
The colorful event commenced around 8:00PM with the playing of both the National and East African Anthems. After the anthems, the contestants entertained the guests with a special opening dance which was referred to as a celebration of Dances of Uganda.
Then the hosts of the legendary and historical night who were Capital FM’s Love Doctor, Levy and Miss Akullo Jean Coprise who is the former Miss Tourism Karamoja 2020/2021 and also an interior designer and landscape architect were introduced.
Immediately after the introduction of the hosts and judges, the event officially started with the playing of the Miss Tourism journey on the giant screens which was followed by the playing of the video profiles of all the beautiful 34 contestants.
The crowds were chanting out loud the names of their contestants as the videos were being played hence proving the organizers that the pageant is really appreciated for in Uganda.
Immediately after the videos of the contestants being played out to the judges and audience for about 10 minutes. The finalists or contestants designed buy Alyn Ros Couture one of the celebrated fashion designers in Uganda showcased their different designs accompanied by soul music from Kenneth Mugabi.
Different outstanding contestants were awarded with different titles or categories that included; Miss popularity, Miss Photogenic, Miss Congeniality, Miss national costume, Miss Talent, Sports queen, Miss Heritage, Uganda Wildlife Education Center brand ambassador, among others.
After awarding the queens then the top 12 finalists were announced and they returned well-dressed by Kaisdivo Collections hence going in for the re-thinking tourism presentation.
A tribute was paid to the Late Hon, Dr. Maria Emily Lubega Mutagamba who died on the 24th of June 2017 after losing the battle to liver cancer. For those who don’t remember the late, she was a Ugandan economist and politician. The late was the minister of tourism, wildlife and antiquities in the Ugandan Cabinet from 15th August 2012 until 6th June 2016.
While she was a minister, she was known for promoting a popular Ugandan egg, vegetable, and chapati wrap known as Rolex. She also revived the Miss Tourism Uganda beauty pageant.
After the tribute a section of the former contestants of this pageant came on stage and also paid tribute to the late hence also talking about the advantages of this pageant to their careers and life.
While addressing the audience, former contestants proved that the pageant had enabled them to meet ambitious career aspirations by becoming high-profile activists, entrepreneurs, decision makers and models.
On that very occasion a new baby was introduced to the crowd and it was named Miss Tourism Independent and the winners were also crowned that very night.
Miss Nabulya Sydney Kavuma, 20 years old from Buganda Kingdom and also Miss Tourism Buganda Region 2022/2023 from Makerere University Business School was the winner.
Miss Moru Consolata, 21 years old from the Karamoja Region who is the 1st runner up Miss Tourism Karamoja was crowned 1st runner up Miss Tourism Uganda 2022/2023.
Miss Ayebare Denise, 19 years old from the Kigezi region studying law at Makerere University and also the Miss Tourism Kigezi was crowned as the 2nd runner up.
Miss Tourism 2022 had participants from the different regions of Uganda namely; Ankole, Buganda, Bunyoro, Busoga, Kigezi, Northern, Eastern, Karamoja, Rwenzori, Teso, Tooro, and lastly West Nile region.
