I really enjoyed the video! But you kinda left out the fact that his friends were highly suspicious during the investigation. There are a lot of things that just don't add up about them. Honestly they weren't really his friends. Things like not calling the authorities right away, instead his wife. Letting Aaron go by himself with his bad state of health. Going out searching for him only by themselves. And not finding his belingings that were later found by authorities, just seem suspicious. According to Aarons wife and several text messages, his "friends" looked down on him and bullied him constantly. They had beef between each other the night before Aaron left their camp. They weren't the kind of friends one would wish to have. Im not saying they directly hurt Aaron but they definitly played a role in his demise. I wouldn't believe a word they tell anyone about this case to be honest.

Right we have to remember the story being told is simply coming from the friends. The friends said there was a horse wreck that caused supplies to be lost including Aaron's sleeping bag. Did the searchers recover the sleeping bag and supplies around the area of the mule dumping them? This for one would have confirmed the initial reason for Arron to head off to Sunset Lake by himself. For all we know all three of them could have made their way up to the ridge by Rein Anchor Ranch by horseback where Aaron may have been killed by one or both of the other two men. I mean have we heard how all of the statements by the friends were determined to be true? What if all of the men were at the backpack location together where a dispute occurred that became violent. That would certainly explain why Arron did not seek safety at the Ranch and why his belongings were set neatly as if he was resting there.

@@eriwilnel good points. There is no reason to actually believe that the men actually lost contact with Aaron when they said they did, unless the radio/gps had a recording feature. Which is unlikely. I feel the weirdest thing here, is how the boots and gear got to the fire pit they found. Because I think the theory that he died near the ranch with men, doesn't fit with that. Because, why would the men fake that? Why would they take just Arron's shoes and put them at a place they said was clear just a day before? If they were trying to change the story, then that was the stupidest thing they could have done. If they didn't stage it, then how did Aaron make it that far to the ranch without boots? There is no way he should have made it that far bare foot.

@@eriwilnel You forget that Aaron’s remains were found without any trace of a struggle or violence (no broken bones etc…). We’ll never know exactly what happened and it’s possible that the friends are hiding something but it’s also possible that they overestimated Aaron’s survival capabilities and acted in what seemed to be a reasonable way to them at the time.

I also heard in a different video that his "buddies" killed a bull the day he took off and they lied about where they killed it because it turns out they trespassed on private property to kill him. I don’t see anywhere on your channel whether or not you take requests but when you said one of the most baffling 411 cases you ever heard it made me think of my hometowns case. I’m from Beaumont Alberta Canada and Ryan shtuka went to work in the mountains of bc at a ski lodge. One night he went to a party and on his basically 5 minute walk home he went missing without a trace. I think it was about 2018 when he went missing. He’s only a few years older than me and a lot of my friends had siblings who were friends with him when he went missing. His family still goes out to look for him and his mum even wrote a book about his disappearance. I would love for you to cover his case in as much depth as you can

This story and others like it remind me why Girl Scouts drill one thing in our brains from the first time one starts a camp at the age of 5 up to and through adulthood (day camp in a local park, over night camps that are owned by the Girl Scouts, or national parks): stick with a buddy. As an aide, I have made girls pair into groups of two, and when hiking, make groups of 4. Groups of four or more are ideal: if one gets hurt a unhurt person performs first aide on site of scout can’t be moved, other two go get help together.

What the man meant by "the grizzlys are coming" is that their territory is expanding and with the increase in the populations due to conservation laws, it is probable that grizzly bears will eventually start being seen in the crazies.

An addendum to the bit at the end about not going alone. If you are lost in the woods, STAY PUT! It’s way easier to find someone who is alone. Ignoring any possible supernatural occurrences, the only real explanation is that Aaron had a stroke. He could have affected his brain in a way that made him still able to move around, have a drink, and even talk to his friends about going the wrong way, but it could also have led to the strange behavior like taking off his boots, leaving his bookbag, and not calling for help or going in the obvious direction for help. Brain damage is strange and there is no expectation as to how a person will behave after having a stroke.
@llsher5210
Жыл бұрын
Actually, this is a decent theory, but it would be more in line with a traumatic brain injury than a stroke. I treat both strokes and head injury as a therapist. The VAST majority of strokes will leave you with some kind of language or motor impairment. Head injuries on the other hand commonly cause some very strange behavior and may not impair one too much physically (at least to begin with) depending on the severity. AND it wouldn't be a stretch really to think you could possibly sustain a head injury out alone in the wilderness. Could explain the theory of why he just "laid down and died" too. If he became very ill, after wandering around confused, from the brain bleed he may have just laid down and succumbed. It seems unlikely he would've gotten as far as he did with that severe of a head injury but not necessarily impossible. Hmm, it's definitely a good thought!!
@tothesky8799
Жыл бұрын
Steering clear of any potential paranormal explanation, I have to agree with the theory of either a head injury or stroke. However, I would like to point out another possibility: he could have been murdered by either his friends, the ranch family who found his backpack/gear, or the people who found his remains. We'll never know the motive for it, though it is certainly not an impossibility.
@llsher5210

@@tothesky8799 oh yeah, for sure. I'm a pretty huge skeptic of supernatural causes but nefarious human intervention is always one of the top suspects in my mind. The enigma channel did phenomenal with this case. And when I seen that his friend told detectives that. He actually was mad Aaron came because he wasn't a good hunter and had a alcohol issue. He then spoke that Aaron was going through withdrawal and they thought he was going off by himself to deal with withdrawal alone. And being a recovering addict. That tells me something isn't right. Because a addict isn't going to quit and detox alone way out in the fucking forest. The friends were told by police to not go up to there catche until the storm was over. There was a bad storm at the time. And yet the friends did indeed go up during that storm and imo was to hide something. So I believe his friends were pisssd he came and that a fight broke out. And they accidentally killed him there or him being beat up from the fight walked off and died. Because the friends turned there phones off knowing he hasn't spoke to them for over a day and a half. That's all pointing to the friends being involved but there just lucky that there's no evidence to prove so.
@JoeMac1983
Жыл бұрын
As a former alcoholic, I disagree with your statement about us not going into the forest to detox. I tried this once because I was suicidal at the time because I couldn't stop drinking. I was an avid hunter, fisher, hiker in my youth and I convinced myself that if I could just seclude myself and "stealth camp", so to speak, that I'd emerge on the other side after having beat my demons. I didn't even make it a full 24 hours before I was back at the car drinking my emergency vodka because I was approaching the DT's and seizures. I was 100% convinced the "woods therapy" would work because I was desperate and quite literally out of my mind. Unfortunately, it took a month in the hospital to detox me and heal my organs. That was 9 years ago last week. Been alcohol and caffeine free ever since!

@@JoeMac1983 congrats I thank God I'm sober 6 yrs from herion. Now I wasn't saying it's impossible he didn't go alone to detox. But the fact that he went with friends vs by himself. And the fact his friends actually didn't like him. The one said he was mad he even let Aaron come with them. Then to wait days before calling it in his missing with the fact a damn blizzard with 1 to 2 feet of snow coming down. To give detectives the wrong location for the cache and then the detectives said don't go up to the cache again because of the blizzard being so bad and halting the search. For his friends to still sneak uo during a blizzard that's really bad to go to that cache is very fishy. I believe they were hiding evidence.

This is the same area I have elk hunted in for almost 3 decades. Hopefully my humble opinion on this video/presentation helps shed some perspective. Cousin and I heard an ominous sound there in '95, but in later years I believe it to be a moose hidden in the trees. I will say first that I have always felt connected to these mtns. In a deep depression in '06, I got VERY low, VERY fast during an elk hunting trip there and called my trip off due to this, but this is circumstantial. Grizzlies: "They're coming...". Ran into a family of black bears this summer, treed, bluff charge me and a friend. Saw a Grizzley in the northern Crazies 5 years ago. Their populations are growing, typically out of the Yellowstone and Glacier park areas. "They're coming" refers to the animal returning to its pre-white (forgive me) incursion. It later came out that friend's harvested an elk on private land there (see checkerboard land), and I believe this led to their questionable behavior, as they were not aware he was dead. Archery hunters wear camo-everything. Consider that boots were camo, and it took a canine to sniff them out. Aaron also was "off the wagon", drinking prior to seperation of party AND potentially missing depression meds. With all due respect to all those involved, I believe this began with frustration, alcohol, depression, isolation, and a sad, semi-intentional end. A look at Aokigahara Forest, a place I was actually lost in ironically, may shed light on the phenomenon.

I never understood the deep connection a lot of people have with the mountains and certain aspects of nature, since I live in Indiana and there isn't a lot of either here. Having lived in Arizona for a year since (and being an avid hiker and outdoorsman), I COMPLETELY get it now. I feel the same way about the Superstition Mountains as Aaron probably did about the Crazies. I truly feel that a part of me is still there. Seeing them, even if on TV, is like seeing an old friend. I would never consider doing this, as my life is going well and I want to live as long as God wills it. But, if I had to pick a place to die it would definitely be at the top of Flatiron.

FYI, _cache_ (a deposit of useful items for future use) has single-syllable pronunciation, essentially sounding like "cash". The 'e' in _cache_ would require an acute accent for it to pronounced "cash-ay", ie. 'caché'. But then the word would be incorrectly spelled. _Caché_ isn't a word. The word you're correctly pronouncing is _cachet._ But that means 'prestige', not 'deposit of useful items...'. Just so ya know! 👍

I've been hypothermic several times in my life while out in the woods, sometimes on purpose for testing. I've even been severe hypothermic on purpose. In this state I have NEVER once lost my mind, thinking capability, sense of direction, knowledge of where I was and how to get back out. This idea of people 'losing their minds' while hypothermic, taking off their clothes, and hallucinating is totally foreign to me. But then again I guess everyone's body & mind is different. It's the exact opposite for me. I get more focused and all senses are immensely heightened.

I'm only speaking first-hand of how I physically react to it, not anyone else. I acknowledge that each individual is unique and can react to it in any manner. For me, senses become greatly focused and nothing else. Perhaps many cross a 'threshold' at some point, where briefly/temporarily heightened senses turn to hallucinations/foggy thoughts.

Your chances of going missing by being alone in the woods are absolutely not "very, very high" lmao. Thousands of people recreate in the wilderness alone every year and a vanishingly small percentage of them disappear or die. That's why these cases are so interesting and disturbing, because they are rare. It's wise to not go cross-country off-trail, sure. But hunters, for example, do it all the time in pursuit of game. If you are familiar with the area and take appropriate precautions it's perfectly fine.

i have no idea why but i really fixated on the one guys saying when asked if there are grizzly bears "no not yet but they are coming" so i found out grizzly bears were declared extinct in Colorado in 1953 though one was found in 1979 when a man unknowingly disturbed its hibernation, he managed to stab it with an arrow to get heli evac'd and saved, though the bear died.

Can someone who's experienced outdoors explain something for me? What exactly does "so and so knew the area extremely well" entail? I assume it's not similar to how I know my local grocery store well. Do you memorize certain markers (like big stone here, weird tree there)? Its hard for me to grasp how you can know wilderness well. Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I've never really had the chance to go camping and such.

I grew up in the transverse range, always surrounded by wilderness/hiking. It’s kind of like walking down the same road everyday. You pick up on the little details and become extremely used to your surroundings, you get to know the terrain super well, and the more obvious do’s and don’ts of what to do. I know to someone on the outside it might seem like everything looks the same, but you get to know it and over time can tell distinctions.

He lost his feet at some point after taking shoes off. Walked last couple miles on frozen stumps. Subconsciously set gear down trying to lessen the weight, and thus the pain. That's not at all a horrific thought.

As a Montana resident for my entire life, I feel a little bit qualified to ad a few points to this. I don't know why he wandered off down the wrong trail (Possibly he was headed for a second one of his caches?), and I don't know how he ended up off the trail, but during/after the snowstorm, it does seem obvious that he started to suffer from hypothermia. also, just because there's a line-of-sight from where they found the thermos and backpack to a house, that doesn't mean that you can see it on a fogy day, or in a snowstorm. Also, I'm not personally familiar with the area, but it's probable that he didn't have phone reception, or that by the time he did get phone reception, his phone had no battery or had gotten wet. Another point is that he might have been trying to hike down and out of the mountains, you'll hit civilization eventually just going down the mountains, but whether or not (in this case not) you can make it to something is a different matter. I honestly don't think that he went crazy, I think he just got turned around and trapped by a blizzard, and tragically didn't survive

His friends might have lied. From stuff I've read/seen about this case, that seems possible. To those of you pointing out his use of a certain word a few times: What's the point in mentioning it? A lot of people have certain words they like and use more often than other people do, or they misuse the word at times. It didn’t ruin the video.

This has given me an interesting thought... perhaps he wasn't exactly crazy, delusional or in any danger. I mean the ditching of his gear is peculiar but in a way it could have been cause he knew he was being tracked and I don't know about rescue efforts but I imagine they are primarily taken during the day or evening not always going through the night. If you were hiding alot of the conventional night time search patterns could easily be avoided.

As to why Hedges continued to carry his bow ... could he have been using it as a walking stick? If he was increasingly unsteady, depending on the type of bow and his height, he might have used it as a sort of cane - ?

He was a bow hunter, so the reason he took off his boots was probably to put on his moccasins. Most experienced bow hunters prefer to switch over to moccasins out of their boots because they are much quieter when hunting. If he got too far away from his campsite and didn't know how to get back. This would explain why he had his bow but not his boots and other equipment. Thoughts?
