For some reason this is my favorite score. Lorne balfe did a great job. It fits the movie perfectly, it's so aggressive just like the movie. Honestly best MI yet. Hope this turns into the new James Bond

Agreed, specially the music during the paris bike escape, when the music goes out and you just hear the sound effects and the composer only uses the really aggressive horns. In my opinion it's the best use of the main theme feels fast paced and it's got kick to it

I don't know why people are disliking the score for being Zimmer-esque. I actually thought it was awesome, and elevated the scenes to make the movie really epic. If you don't believe me, just listen to the tracks "Free Fall" and "Stairs and Rooftops" (which you mentioned). Besides, it also has some quiet moments of reverie and eerieness (I hope I'm writing that well), like the track you used: the one from the scene in which Ethan meets Ilsa beneath the trees. All in all, this movie is probably one of my favorite action movies ever. The more I think about it, the more that idea settles in my mind.

carlos orlando Yeah I've been listening to all the scores recently and apart from the beautiful and underused Nessun Dorma motif, I find Joe Kraemer's score really lightweight and underwhelming. I prefer this epic Inception style sound and of course Michael Giacchino's big band brass style.

Umm...I think I found The Last Action Hero Oliver, it's Tom Muthaf-ing Cruise! MI-6 is my fave 2018 summer movie hands down...bone crunching action, cool fake outs, insane in camera stunts from Cruise and his top notch technical team, great locations and use of them, and a great score. I actually disagree, I easily recall and love all the MI flicks (even the uber cheesy MI-2 from John Woo) Fallout actually connects to MI-3 and wraps up the Ghost & Rogue storylines regarding Ethan & his team. To me, the MI series has been the most consistent spy series over both Bourne & Bond the past 15 years. It's my fave spy series easily right now. Cruise continues to push the stunt boundaries while making sure we stay invested in the characters, an awesome blockbuster franchise all around!

it wasn't just the music that reminded me of nolan films, the setpieces did too. the armored car scene felt the same as the dark knight (it even has a car getting pushed into water and then the hero's transition to motorcycle, plus the music was basically mombasa from inception).

Thanks Ollie! That was a quick turnaround from me asking! And well produced. I also saw it in IMAX, and I was surprised to find it wasn't filmed in IMAX, as it look so clear it's like looking through a window. Very impressive. For a Summer blockbuster, it's got everything you need: amazing frenetic action with a a clear vision of what's going on (no shakycam), endearing characters, and humour.

One could argue, due to its odd course through the years, one could compare this franchise (Or the other way around) to the Fast and Furious franchise, in that the first one laid the ground work. Very few like the second film, the third one was interesting. Then a few years break and then the next one comes out that makes everybody takes interest again and then they come out again and again and it grows and stays fum. Though I like the Mission Impossible franchise more, but its interesting to see the franchise similarities in terms of public popularity over the course of time.

I loved this movie. My favorite of the series. It was shot beautifully, it was very sleek, the pacing was good, Cavill was a fun character. I agree with Oliver, I really like the 1st movie. It just holds a special place in my heart, probably because I was 14 when it came out and everything around that age is tinted a bit. The second wasn't good and hasn't aged well but still had some fun set pieces. I really didn't like part III, I hated the camera work and whatever camera aspect they were using. It really put me off. I believe part 4 is where things changed and it really came into its own as a franchise and formula. So the last 3 have seemed to be in the same vein and this was the best of the last 3. I hope they continue to make more.

This movie is good but not great the third act is weighed down with the cliche have to stop x before the clock runs out. I would love to see a Mission Impossible without someone in the CIA/IMF go rogue and without a ticking clock they have to stop just at the last second. Please just once lol.

I agree, the first half was alright but I kinda switched off at the double-triple-quadruple cross scene...its just rehashing its series tropes and would like something less run of the mill.
I can respect that list. I'm curious of your age? I was 13 when the first one come out, always get that nostalgic feeling, when watching the first one... 1. Mission: Impossible 2. Mission: Impossible Fallout 3. Mission: Impossible -Rogue Nation 4. Mission: Impossible 3 5. Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol 6. Mission: Impossible 2

Steve Robert I'm 20. M:I-3 was the first film in the franchise that I saw in theaters. That's the one I'm most nostalgic for. I think they're all good movies (Except for M:I-2 which is more of a guilty pleasure), but I much prefer the sequels to the original.

saxbend If you're a fan of the tv series and you prefer the slow burn approach, sure. I'd personally put the sequels (Barring 2) ahead of it since they balance suspense and tension with exciting action scenes. They also make much better use of the other teammates.

M:I-2 was my favorite film in the series. I thought it had incredible action sequences. Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation was the best film in the series since M:I-2. M:I-3 and M:I-3 were my least favorites and I thought they were dull and freak entries in the series. But, I feel the problem with the Mission Impossible movies is that it's the same plot. Ethan goes on the run and there's a spy or traitor in IMF.
Gotta say, I love these new mini retrospective reviews you're doing.

The action scenes were well-executed but nothing special. We still remember numerous scenes from the first Mission: Impossible (the opening scene as the team are being killed, the exploding fish tank, the high-security room, the helicopter chase through the tunnel, etc.). I couldn't recall a single memorable scene after leaving the theatre after watching this. A franchise that started like that should have at least one action scene that people would talk about long after watching the film. People in the theatre were silent throughout the whole high-security room scene. That's the difference between a master like De Palma and the directors who directed the subsequent ones.

I think this is one of the best Mission Impossible films, and I think I like it just as much as the original, which has always been my favourite. Fallout has some satisfying twists and turns in the plot that complement the action. That's one thing I did not like about Mission Impossible 3, which I felt had barely any story at all and an obvious MacGuffin in the form of the "Rabbit's Foot". A lot of people tend to not like Mission Impossible 2 as much as the others, and I used to be one of them, but I think it's much better than number 3 due to the interesting way in which it uses the Chimera Virus and the cure of Bellerophon.

Can't say this was my favourite Impossible Mission film. It looks good and the stunts are great but Henry Cavell's characters is made to look like a buffoon early in the film and it puts him into a hole that climb out of and for him to be taken seriously. Also I felt the Paris chase scene went on too long, just as you think it is going to finish, it starts up again and by the end of the film I did feel it was getting too long. Oh and I love Mission Impossible II, though I am not a fan of III at all.
