During the late 1950’s, the Jugoslovenska Narodna Armija (JNA Yugoslavian People’s Army) became wary of the fact that its inventory lacked an armored personnel carrier (APC) able to effectively transport supporting infantry for armored formations. In 1956, one such project was initiated, leading to the creation of the first Yugoslavian APC, designated the M-60. Its development was a significant step for the JNA, as it marked the first time the country had its own indigenous APC. However, the vehicle faced numerous problems during its development and testing phases, which led to a design that was ultimately unsatisfactory.
