I bought a Jammix IO board and a mt-32 pi. Jammix is a really nice itx form factor board, but Ironclad has much more features integrated into it. Having a mt-32 attach internally and not having it take up a port is a huge plus. I’m going to buy the board to replace the Jammix and the external mt-32 pi. Great video!

I think this is a great development for MiSTer especially if it can use 2 RAM modules. I have the aluminum case that came out before, which is a huge aesthetic upgrade over the "PCB case" and the 3d printed cases, but having ports on all sides is just so hideous. I appreciate the community for the work they do, but the cases that people come up with... could use some serious improvement. This is what we needed. (I just saw your reply to the other post about dual RAM - nice.)

Thank you for making this video, I was not aware of this board before now. Contemplating selling my USB Hub and Analog IO Board so I can have access to dual SDRAM! Question about the video outputs, can HDMI, VGA and Genesis AV outputs be used simultaneously? Would love to have this hooked up to a capture card, 240p component CRT and VGA CRT monitor all at the same time, as niche as that use case probably is. Either way using the ITX standard is a fantastic idea and I could see myself using my own DAC with this IO board.
@LusRetroSource

You can only get dual analog video and HDMI output if you're using 1 SDRAM module. The second SDRAM module takes over the pin's for the analog video out, so in that case you can only output HDMI alone or use direct video over HDMI to output analog video alone.

These kits are nice as a drop in solution. Most of the board is just routing lines from the de10 to the io port and other plugs for ease of use. If you wanted to save some money, you can get 90% of the functionality by just routing extension cables. There are mini itx io plates and adapters on thingaverse you can print out for the case.

Is there a way to integrate the mt32pi to this setup?
@LusRetroSource
2 жыл бұрын
Only way to use an MT32pi is through the DB9 port. Probably will have to do some major modifications to a case to integrate it. You may want to take a look at the more compact MT32-Pi hat's that use the Pi Zero for something that's takes up less space.

This new case has me wondering. Are there any cores that are perfect yet disappointing because their serial data connections are not supported so their peripherals that use lpt or scuzi are still not compatible?
@LusRetroSource
2 жыл бұрын
I guess it would depend on what you want to do. Playing single player games you'll be fine. I haven't tried multiplayer gaming in AO486 over the MiSTer but hope to try it out in the future. I guess if you want to use software that depends on some specialty device connected to a computer then a real device will be better suited for that. At least we have MIDI support for computer cores so we can connect MIDI instruments.

that PSU seems to be total overkill right? Like the max PSU I see anyone using with a regular MiSTer build is a 20w model, but I've never seen anyone draw more than 6-7w from the wall, even with a ton of accessories attached.. does the ironclad draw more power than a De10, a standard USB Board, and a standard IO board combined???

The only thing that matters with the power supply is that the 5v line gives you at least 4amps or more. The overall wattage does not matter make sure 5v line carries the proper amount of amps the de10 nano would need along with any additional power for hard drives etc...

So I recently ordered the Mister Multisystem from RMC...does Mister not generally support multiple inputs for multiplayer? I may have to get one of these otherwise
@LusRetroSource
2 жыл бұрын
When using USB gamepads, it does support multiple players, and even more than 2 players. When things get complicated is when you want to use original console controllers. So you will be fine with multiplayer gaming. SNAC is a connection on MiSTer IO Boards that allow you to plug in original NES/Genesis/SNES/etc controllers so you can get a more authentic experience. There are limitations to SNAC. You can only use 1 original controller and the controller will only work on it's native core. So for example, the SNES controller will only work with the SNES core and not other cores. This board supports an enhanced version of SNAC that allows you to use 2 players. USB controllers do not have these limitations.

Yes, it's exactly like a standard MiSTer setup with IO Board. Just unplug it from your CRT then go to your HDTV and plug in through HDMI and vice versa, no config changes needed. You can even output both analog and HDMI at the same time.
