Mitchell Starc Bowling Action Analysis-
[A] RUN-UP:
[1] Mitchell Starc has a smooth & a rhythmic run-up of about 20-23 meters.
[2] He runs in fast with long running strides, though it looks like he is running casually but due to his tall height and psychic it seems slow, but he actually runs very fast.
[3] During the initial phase of his run-up he slightly leans forward towards his target to accelerate his body.
[4] He always lands his foot under the center of mass of his body during his run-up.
[5] He has one of the most perfect run-up, along with Brett Lee & Dale Steyn, as he follows most effective running techniques like during his running in cyclic motion, running in straight line etc.
[6] He shows proper synchronized movements of his arms during his run-up & his bowling wrist is always locked at 90° as well.
[B] JUMP & GATHER:
[1] Starc has a long jump, doesn't have shin-lead in his action, but he never collapses at his back-foot because of his stiff & quick back-foot contact.
[2] He makes sure that his impulse-step always lands under the center of mass of his body, not like Amir, whose foot lands ahead of him before his jump, making sure that he has a nice and free-flowing jump.
[3] During the initial phase of his career, he used to had his load up in-front of his left eye, though he had speed with that action but he lagged control over his line and length. So, he decided to bring a slight change in his action & decided to load his bowling-arm underneath his shoulders but that felt him like a more of a mechanical functioning rather than a rhythmic action, also it resulted in losing of his arm speed. So, he decided to again go back to his normal action by just insuring one change that at his BFC his bowling arm should be near his back hip only, thereby ensuring both his speed and accuracy both.
[C] BFC:
[1] Mitchell Starc has a BFC of about 0.15sec which helps him in transferring his momentum from back-foot to front-foot directly without collapsing on his back-foot.
[2] He has no heel contact during his BFC.
[3] He is a hip-dominant front-on bowler i.e. he uses his run-up speed to generate pace.
[4] At his back-foot contact he has his non-bowling arm at its highest position & made sure that the rotation of his non-bowling arm is very quick. This not only helps him in dealing his bowling arm but also helps him in a strong chest drive as well.
[D] FFC & DELIVERY STRIDE:
[1] During his delivery stride he forms a star-shaped position which helps him in maintaining a proper alignment at the delivery stride by making sure that he is not leaned too much forward neither too backward.
[2] He also has one of the best chest drive targeting toward his target.
[3] In the initial phase of his career he used to have a braced front-leg at his FFC, but as it resulted in 15 times pressure of his body weight on his front-knee. So, now he doesn't have a much braced front leg.
[4] His both arms acts as a long lever which helps him in snapping his wrist fast & hard.
[5] He also has a very complete follow through by letting his bowling arm bypass his knees after the ball release.
