Indeed. But Mick did a fair bit of writing in open G. There’s film footage of Mick and Keith working out the chords to this one in the studio. Maybe it’s a legit co-written Stones song.

There’s that great clip from the great 25x5 of the glimmer twins writing this song. You’re right, when this single came out I was so happy because they were not only back together but they still had it. Steel Wheels is a great album. Right up there with some of their best work IMO.

Maybe a helpful hint to some. I don't have low E string. When I play a minor chord, I wrap my thumb over the top to get the low 3 strings then index finger on the B string and middle finger on the high E string that of course is tuned to D. 🤷♂️

Thanks JJ for another awesome Stones vid. It has some good moments, but Dirty Work was a weak Stones album, clearly they needed a break, spread their wings with solo projects. I remember when Steel Wheels was released. From the second it starts you could hear the Stones were back in a big way, refreshed, recharged & were a solid unit once more. It's one of my absolute favourites.

I saw them on the Steel Wheels tour for the first and only time. I have to say that it was somewhat bitter sweet. I've loved the Stones since I first bought a copy of Hot Rocks in about 1977, which led me to start trying to collect every Stones album in their catalog. I was disappointed that Bill Wyman had left the band for this tour, but was thrilled to be able to see my guitar hero Keith in person. My opinion is that Some Girls was the last truly great Stones album and after that, the quality of each album started going down hill. Tattoo You had some really great songs, but I felt almost half the album was not up to par. There were some great songs here and there on the rest of their releases that came after Some Girls (i.e. She's So Cold, One Hit To The Body, Little T and A), but most of their songs, I felt, were weak. I would give this song, Mixed Emotions, about a 6 on a scale of 1 to 10. That said, thanks for the lesson, because it is one of the better songs off of Steel Wheels, and you can never get too many Keith Riff-hard lessons.

Steel Wheels was good, but not great. It’s a so so. It’s got Sad Sad Sad, Mixed Emotions, Terrifying, Hold On To Your Hat, Rock And A Hard Place. The rest is debatable. I’ve always liked Undercover and Dirty Work more.
