Yo so do these same principles apply to a 2 track with no limiter? I usually make my own beats and use a 2 track but I don't use a limiter on them until the vocals are applied, just wondering

One thought about the SSL EQ to make room for vocals: This totally makes sense, and is a good idea. But you could take it one step further and use a dynamic eq or mb compressor sidechained to some main vocal bus so that 2k is only attenuated to make room for the vocal when the vocal is active

Hey Devvon , I have a little suggestion. I remade your technique and added a Steven Slate low end Trick. After that all processing for the 2-track beat you can implement EQ with reflective filter. I mean low pass and add it at around 51 hz for the kick tightness. By doing that you can have more aggresive kick and less not important low end that muddy mix.

I usually put a ceiling on the beat, so it doesnt go over -11db, then one on the vocals at -10db (so it’s a little louder than the beat) and at -12-13 on background/adlibs. then when done with vocals/background vocals, ad libs, etc. I raise the volume in the master. Like audacity because if you do what i like to do is import my downloaded beats into audacity and then normalize it to -0.1db to get rid of clipping then I turn the volume fader down to -24db and slowly bring the fader back up until I feel the beat is at a comfortable level hope this helps you

Very good video best information is turning the beat down because it's mastered. Also could throw trackspacer on the 2 track and run vocals to it to carve space out for the vocals Edit: actually carving that 2khz range is the best information and then throwing trackspacer after the eq makes it even better.

All great points, might I suggest taking it one step further. Go the the raw waveform to lower the level of the 2 track instrumental. In Ableton it's called the Clip Gain, all DAWs have some way of doing this. I pretty much always lower it by 5 to 6 db.
