Miyako Otsuki, born in Osaka, Japan, made her debut from King Records in 1964. Since then, Otsuki’s continuous work with enthusiasm for singing has led her to multiple major awards in the Japanese music industry, including the Best Singer Award (1987 & 2013) and the Grand Prix (1992) of the Japan Record Awards. The total attendance of Otsuki’s stage plays as a chairperson for approximately 20 years exceeded 3 million people, and she became the first singer to receive the National Arts Festival Award recognized by the Agency for Cultural Affairs, Government of Japan. In praise of Otsuki’s performance and contribution to art for a long time, she received the commendation from the Commissioner for Cultural Affairs in 2016, and also the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Rosette at the Spring Conferment of Decorations in 2017. There is no doubt for Otsuki to be called the “treasure of the Enka world”. This concert is a celebration of Otsuki’s 55th Anniversary of her debut. It features Otsuki’s encounter with music through Japanese nursery rhymes, the signature songs of her seniors Hachiro Kasuga and Michiya Mihashi who went out on the road together, one-person reenactment of her stage plays in the past (“Onna Keizu” by Kyoka Izumi and “Yukiguni” by Yasunari Kawabata), and of course, her own hit tunes. This is a culmination of Otsuki’s career representing the charm of the Japanese art and culture, which should be handled down to the next generation and be appealing to everyone throughout the world.
