I definitely sat there watching part 1 going "why are they restoring this? It looks perfect!" And then I started watching part 2. Wow, amazing how much can be hidden. Loving the channel right because my first love is Porsche and my 2nd is VW. As always your workmanship is aspirational.

It can be a surprise to us too sometimes, but this shell is roughly how we thought it would be. Restoration standards have come a long way in the last decade or so too so it’s no surprise the patch style repairs here. Glad you’re enjoying it and thanks for the comments

That looks pretty good. Some tricky areas to repair though. Mine was similar. Great vid.

Astonishing how little rust is on a 40 plus year vehicle , even behind the outer arches I couldn’t believe they were fine on the inner 😮

I agree, and a pleasant change to the normal layers of rust! This thing is absolutely full of Waxoyle which has obviously helped

Surprised at the minimal repairs required on this shell! Appreciated the additional tips on how you tend to do things, tools/grits etc. With the sunroof panel, are you not going to bother with the rot on the inner skin or split them to kill any rust between them? If it’s anything like my beetle panel, it will probably be hiding a lot! Videos get better every time, keep em coming! 👏🤙

The inner skin was repaired where needed. I’d like to think the other areas are ok especially with the car being a decade younger than the beetle. Blasting normally shows up areas that are rusting from the inside because the metal would be thin and become perforated when blasted. That said, it isn’t always the case but that applies to the whole shell and it’s not realistic to be splitting apart every seam on a car. 👍🏻

Haha that would be a nice mod. This is going to be a pretty much stock build but maybe with air ride 👍🏻

You’d forgive the previous rear arch repair if the rust had been chopped out. No skill needed to chop off the rot!

Laziness / corner cutting / cheap. One of those three I think
