Hello Chris, no the pivot frame was actually a bought item. Its my mates. Cant remember where he bought it from as he must have had it for over 10 years now i would say. Very very useful bit of kit.

Hi Craig, loving the ideos and the down to earth approach you have. Did you start from a repro or a sound shell? I've restored several cars and bare metalled them but they seem to have rust issues a few years later and I always wonder why, is it down to not etch priming the bare metal or what? Have ou any videos of you restoring/renovating the Mexico shell?

Hello and thanks very much for your comment. I bought the shell as a complete wreck. It was so bad that when it was on Ebay, it barely got any interest because the state of corrosion was so far advanced that there wasn’t much of the shell saveable. Ive ended up replacing pretty much every panel except the rear quarters, Boot floor, 1 rear inner arch and the A B and c posts. Everything else is new steel including full front bulkhead, both inner wings, outer wings, all 3 sections of chassis legs back to front both sides, rear quarter lower repairs, outer arches, back panel, roof skin, bonnet, boot , Doors and i could still go on further. I absolutely love metal fabrication and welding so i wasn’t at all daunted by the scale of the task. I actually really enjoyed it. Its my favourite part of any restoration. I actually would have hated to buy a decent shell and i know that sounds very weird 🤣. It took 4 years and 3 months to restore the shell ready for paint and i really wish i had done you tube videos on the full shell restoration but i only started them after the paintwork which is the only thing i haven’t done myself. If you look a little further back theres s 10 minute slideshow video which shows some of the many photos from the bodyshell resto. Unfortunately thats the best i can do. If i was to do it all over again, i would video it all from start to finish. As long as you use good weld through primer on all your seams, make sure all steel is perfectly rot free and seam seal all your joints really thoroughly then you shouldn’t have any issues from a corrosion perspective. Having a warm dry workplace also helps and never leaving any bare steel for any length of time.

@@performanceclassics1986 great work. I did a few A Series Opel Mantas and a couple of those only had the original roof, rear quarters and bulkhead remaining. I think where I went wrong must have been that I never used seam sealer. I'm totally with you on the metalwork side of things. Once you approach metal forming in a logical way it's very straight forward and an absolute pleasure to do, my first victory in this area was making headlight base panels using a pair of car ramps, some mole grips and a hammer. Great fun! Keep up the good work, loving the build mate.

@@1968spikey Thanks. I agree, metal work i think is a pleasure to deal with. Its so rewarding when you get it right. I much prefer it over mechanical work. It wont be the last shell i restore because i enjoy it too much. Always try and use seam sealer thoroughly. It stops water getting into your seams and rotting them out. Thanks for the great comment 👍
