I Apologize for the terrible grammar as I am using talk to text on my phone because I can't text because my fingers hurt and I hope I don't have to pull landscaping duty .... If you reach Major League level baseball without being a great athlete unless a player has some sort of niche skill like a knuckleball pitcher maybe..... And I'm not saying that a picture that specializes in throwing knuckleballs can't be a great athlete but typically a person that can throw a baseball over 90 miles an hour they're a pretty damn good athlete. Throwing a baseball really hard requires the same fast twitch muscles that are used when a person dunks on a 10-ft goal or sprints exceptionally well. Of course certain positions typically have better athletes than other positions. An outfielder that can run like a damn deer and has a cannon for an arm is pretty damn athletic. I get tired of people making comments about baseball having inferior athletes compared with other sports. People don't even realize that in baseball prospects are required to run the 60-yard dash because sprinting is pretty damn important in baseball. I guess people assume that in order to be a top level base runner stealing high numbers of bases each season is more about skill rather than just sheer speed. it's both..... They have to be creative in the way they slide because the catcher at this level of baseball we'll have a cannon for an arm and will not be slow moving when throwing down to second or third. And hitting a major league or any professional or college level pitcher isn't more about skill than it is athleticism. Sure there is a lot of skill involved in being a good hitter at higher levels but does anyone really think that a poor athlete could ever be a professional or college level hitter and put up great numbers? Football and basketball are similar to baseball in that certain positions are known for less athleticism than others. Middle in God damn fielders aren't typically as big as say a third baseman or a first baseman but I know there are exceptions to this and I'm just speaking generally. Think about the positions in basketball or football and the size differences and speed differences between positions. I don't know.....I guess because baseball has a slower overall pace but that does not mean that baseball doesn't have moments that are just as fast as any sport with players running full tilt and everyone utilizing all of their ability. I mean I guess people don't realize that in order to prevent a base runner from scoring or beating out a ground ball it might require players to move with a little bit of urgency lol. I think folks look at baseball players and assume that they're not a great athlete a lot of the time because of the lack of familiarity with the game. I'm sure many people could see Josh Hamilton on TV and not realize that the dude had top level like 1 percentile level athleticism. There aren't many athletes of his caliber in the world yet even those less gifted than he are often freaking amazing athletes. Go look at some chipper Jones high School football highlights because that dude could have played in the NFL I have no doubt. I know that I could have presented my argument in a much more organized and clear way but hell if a person's not going to agree that to be a great baseball player playing at a high there needs to be some pretty damn good athleticism then I'm not going to waste my time trying to convince them otherwise. I do take offense to the assumptions about this and baseball because I think baseball is an amazing sport and someone talking like that could influence some young kid and that kid might never even give baseball a try just because they're somehow equating it with golf in their minds due to the ignorance of people.
