I always loved that Ichiro clip because Ichiro was completely right. He drew the line exactly where that ball was.

It was probably off the plate, but closer than the line he drew. Still, the way great hitters like that can see the ball so well always amazes me.

I wonder if he knew that it's an automatic ejection in MLB to point and draw a line like that? I don't know if it's legal in Japan's baseball leagues...Just curious.
Ichiro is a legend. Leave it to him to get thrown out when he was dead-accurate on where the pitch was.

@@rilian226 Yes indeed. Lee MacPhail upheld the protest and awarded the home run and ordered the game to be replayed from that point. Billy Martin made a fool of himself by protesting that Brett did not touch all 4 bases, which was quashed with a signed affidavit that the home run was legal and Brett had touched all bases. Martin then threw a fit and was thrown out of the game. The Royals went on to win 5-4.

Despite initial controversy, it seems that the introduction of AI for ball-strike decisions in the KBO League has been met with success. The AI ball-strike decision system was named ABS (Automatic Ball-Strike System) by KBO, and the emotional fight between the umpire and the players has been significantly reduced, which shortened the game time even more than stuffs such as the pitch clock.

Nothing that you'll notice on-field. Weaker umpires get less prestigious positions, and fewer good games. In particular, they don't get to work playoffs. Might not seem like much, but umpires do notice when they don't get quality games. A basic problem with anything more serious, such as say sending umpires back to the minors, is that they would have to build and maintain a much larger (and well paid) pool of umpires ready to rotate in (and risk being rotated out) when other umpires fall short.
