@@user-ww6vl8uk7m No, the play in Pittsburgh where Baez thought the run would count as long as the runner from third touched home plate before Baez was tagged or forced out at first base. He simply got lucky that the Pirates first baseman was even stupider.

I agree. It’s also worse when you think about how he got injured by hustling on a routine ground ball before. When it’s a dribbler to the pitcher I think it is okay to jog so you prevent injury in a play that only has a 1% safe rate.

That looks like the manager prolly had somthn against bryce harper during that period. On a ground ball fielded cleanly back to the mound you dont just bench someone for jogging instead of sprinting

Managers HATE lack of hustle obviously… Sometimes using a star player as an example to the rest is absolutely necessary! If a star will be benched for lacking hustle, NO ONE IS SAFE from being benched… or worse.

As a Padres fan I get extremely pissed when Machado makes contact and then basically jogs to first. He grounded out into three double plays in the last two days and not once did he put any effort in trying to beat out the throw.

What doesn’t make sense to me, is not sprinting to first base no matter what. Even if there’s a possibility of injury or overextended oneself, sprinting to the base not only applies pressure to the players, but it makes it a lot tighter and a lot of times the runner can make it.

As someone who's forgotten how many outs there are running from first to second, I sympathize with the players who do it here. It's a little more forgivable in 8th grade after school baseball than it is in the major leagues and you're getting paid a fortune to not make that mistake, though.

Unpopular opinion but for those comebackers to the pitcher, I don't fault the batter for busting his ass. Pitcher only has to jog to the bat or under hand throw the ball to first. It's an out every time.
